The Unite Movement for Change (UMC) National Campaign Manager, MC Cham Jr., has described the defection of Dr. Abdoulie Bojang to the Unite Party as a major political milestone, saying the move reflects growing public confidence in the party’s vision and leadership.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with JollofNews, Cham said Dr. Bojang’s decision to join UMC alongside his family and more than 200 supporters demonstrates the increasing momentum the party is building as it prepares for future electoral contests.
“Dr. Abdoulie Bojang joining the Unite Party is a significant development for us,” Cham said. “Beyond his personal decision, he came with his family and over 200 supporters. That sends a strong message that people believe in the direction the Unite Party is taking.”
Cham, who noted that he has known Dr. Bojang for many years, praised the new entrant’s grassroots political experience and close relationship with communities, describing him as a leader who remains connected to the people.
He expressed confidence that Dr. Bojang will play a key role in strengthening the party’s structures across the country and expanding its support base.
Addressing speculation over whether Dr. Bojang’s defection could persuade members of the “No to Alliance” faction to align with UMC, Cham took a measured view, stressing that Gambian voters make independent political choices.
While acknowledging Dr. Bojang’s strong influence in the Foni region, he rejected suggestions that any single politician could deliver an entire constituency or region.
“I don’t believe any individual can deliver an entire region,” Cham asserted. “Gambians vote based on trust, leadership, and the vision a party presents.”

Cham emphasised that the Unite Party intends to earn support in Foni and other parts of the country through sustained grassroots engagement rather than relying solely on endorsements from influential political figures.
“Dr. Bojang has influence and respect in Foni, and I have no doubt he will help us connect with more people there,” he concluded. “But ultimately, it is the people of Foni who will decide, and we are ready to earn their confidence through hard work and service.”
