Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) leader and National People’s Party (NPP) Grand Coalition representative Mai Ahmad Fatty has expressed confidence that President Adama Barrow’s continuity bid will secure a decisive victory at the upcoming presidential election.
Fatty made the remarks after senior executive leaders of the NPP Grand Coalition met President Barrow at State House in Banjul for a high-level political conclave.
Speaking to journalists after the closed-door meeting, Fatty said the gathering was aimed at consolidating the coalition’s strategy and strengthening coordination among its leadership ahead of the country’s upcoming electoral milestones.
“We had a conclave, and the conclave was very simple,” Fatty said. “We have a strategy, we have a plan, and we are on course. This is merely to consolidate what has been going on regular consultations among party leaders at the highest level.”
According to Fatty, the coalition’s efforts extend beyond its senior leadership, with party structures and members across the country involved in advancing its political agenda.
He described the meeting with President Barrow as a demonstration of unity and a shared commitment to what he called national stability, consolidation and continuity.
“The meeting with the President today is the highest level to demonstrate that we are one, we are resolute, and we are committed to consolidation and continuity because that is the demand of the times and the demand of the Gambian people,” he said.
Fatty said the coalition was not primarily focused on its political opponents but on improving its own electoral performance.
“We are not contesting against anyone; we are contesting our previous record. How do we exceed the previous record? That is all, nothing more,” he said.
He further predicted that President Barrow would secure another mandate, saying the coalition’s political strategy was already producing results across the country.
“I’m sending a signal to the entire political class that His Excellency President Adama Barrow, it is going to be a case of continuity,” Fatty said. “The masterclass of practical politics is already on display across the country.”
The coalition leadership has expressed confidence that its unified approach, regional mobilisation and continued coordination among its constituent parties will translate into an even stronger performance at the polls.
