(JollofNews) – Gambia’s president-elect Adama Barrow will today issue another statement to update Gambians about the current political standoff with President Yahya Jammeh.
Tension is currently high in the small West African nation with a population of less than two million after Mr Jammeh annulled the results of December 1st presidential election.
The results were called in favour of Adama Barrow and his opposition coalition.
Mr Jammeh had initially conceded defeat and praised the country’s electoral system as rigged proof. He changed his mind a week later citing huge and unacceptable mistakes by the electoral commission.
He said the results will be challenged at the Supreme Court of The Gambia, which at the moment does not have any sitting judge apart from the Chief Justice.
For the court to hear the case, Mr Jammeh would have to appoint the remaining judges. Under Gambian law, the president is responsible for hiring and firing judges and magistrates.
The opposition and international organisations including the United Nations have rejected calls for fresh elections and have called on Mr Jammeh to respect the outcome of the election.

And to further allay the fears of Gambians Mai Ahmad Fatty, a senior member of the opposition coalition said President-elect Barrow will issue a media statement on the futile attempt to subvert the Constitution and the vain effort to resort to a court that has not been constituted for over a year.
Writing on his Facebook page, Mr Fatty said: “We know what we are doing. No cause for alarm. There are concrete actions happening on the ground. President-elect Barrow is the only legitimate Authority in the Gambia.
“He will not condone any attempt to fan ethnic tension as is being promoted by the APRC, attempts to distabilise or the incitement of violence. We will remain a stable democratic Gambia at peace with itself and the world. Our doors remain open. The New Gambia is here to stay.”
The 22 years formal ruling president shoul respect the voices of the people of Gambia to accept result as he did before so that he will be respected in his home, intermatinnally and around the world. Mr. Yaryah, let me remind and advice you as farmer from sierr leone “have ynu forgotten what happens in Ivory Coast” If you have not forgotten then please give way for the elected president. If you have forgotten then you about to join that formal president to the Haigge. Bye

Jammeh is a dead man walking. His time is finish. A rat never dies without wobbling its tail, which is what Jammeh is doing. Please don’t mind him. He is no more for The Gambia. He knows it. Adama the man get yourself and your team ready. One man cannot fight a dozen.
