NPP Deputy National Youth President Lamin K. Saidy has delivered a harsh assessment of former party youth leader and National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Kebba Madi Bojang, accusing him of abandoning the ruling party after losing access to a business opportunity.
Speaking at an NPP youth rally in Kerewan on Wednesday, Saidy alleged that Bojang’s decision to break away from the NPP was driven less by political conviction than by anger over the government’s revocation of a mining licence.
Saidy claimed the licence was withdrawn after concerns over environmental damage, arguing that Bojang subsequently turned against the party and President Adama Barrow.
“He was given a mining license, but he was destroying the environment; that is why President Adama Barrow seized his mining license,” Saidy said.
The deputy youth president questioned whether Bojang’s loyalty to the NPP was genuine, contrasting his alleged pursuit of business interests with what Saidy described as the sacrifices made by ordinary party supporters.
Saidy also revisited Bojang’s time as NPP Youth President, accusing him of failing to build a strong grassroots youth network.
He alleged that Bojang frequently complained about a lack of funding and failed to adequately engage young people, including during his interactions with senior government officials.
The NPP official further claimed that Bojang’s presence in the regions was largely tied to presidential tours, rather than sustained mobilisation of the party’s youth base.
“If you saw him, it was only because President Barrow was on his way to the provinces,” Saidy said. “You would not even know whether he represented the NPP or himself.”
Despite the criticism, Saidy said the NPP would focus on its own youth agenda rather than remain preoccupied with Bojang’s political departure.
He pledged continued support for scholarships, vocational training and skills development programmes, saying the party would work to expand opportunities for young Gambians.
