President Adama Barrow has pledged to increase the monthly salaries of village heads, known as Alkalolu, by 75 percent if he is re-elected in the December 2026 presidential election.
President Barrow made the promise while addressing supporters during a major political rally in Farafenni, where he sought to rally support for his bid to remain in office.
“I have told you after the 2026 elections, the Alkalo’s salaries will be increased by 75 percent. I promised you that and I will do it, by the grace of Allah,” Barrow told the gathering.
The pledge comes as political parties and presidential candidates intensify their campaigns ahead of the December election, with voters expected to weigh competing promises and policy proposals from the various political camps.
Barrow also expressed confidence in the strength of his political alliance, arguing that his coalition has sufficient support and organisational capacity to mount an effective nationwide campaign.
The president said his confidence was reinforced by the turnout at the Farafenni rally, which he presented as evidence of continued public support for his administration.
“If I am not there campaigning, my alliance party can campaign and win the election,” Barrow said, underscoring his confidence in the political machinery supporting his re-election bid.
The president also used the gathering to appeal directly to residents of Farafenni to support his candidacy, linking a renewed mandate to the continuation of his government’s development programme.
Barrow urged voters to back him so that ongoing infrastructure and development projects could continue without interruption.
