President Adama Barrow has pledged to honour his political commitments and work closely with Essa Mbye Faal following the formal signing of an alliance agreement between the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and Faal’s APP-Sobeya.
The agreement was formally signed at the State House in Banjul, where party supporters, delegates and members of the two political formations gathered for the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, President Barrow called for greater political unity and urged his allies to shift their focus away from political infighting and concentrate on national development, particularly infrastructure and economic growth.
“The noise going around will not benefit anyone and it has no use for the country,” President Barrow told Faal and his delegation. “What is important is developing this country.”
Speaking in his capacity as NPP leader, Barrow said political actors must remain vigilant despite the conclusion of the previous electoral cycle. He urged members of the alliance to strengthen their grassroots structures and intensify mobilisation ahead of future elections.
Warning his political partners against complacency, the President said: “An enemy is never small,” while calling on the alliance partners to work collectively towards securing decisive victories at the polls.
Barrow also sought to reassure APP-Sobeya of his commitment to the political understanding, promising to honour the commitments made to those who have joined his political camp.
“All those who came to join me believed in me, that is why I will make sure that I fulfill my promise,” Barrow said.
Turning directly to Essa Faal, the President added: “Essa Faal, we will work together, and all we see to do.”
Faal, a former presidential candidate, has now brought APP-Sobeya into the NPP-led political alliance as the ruling party continues to consolidate its political partnerships ahead of Gambia’s 2026 presidential election.
Barrow concluded his remarks by calling on members of the wider alliance to put aside political differences, reconcile where necessary and embrace one another in the interest of national stability and development.
He said unity among the coalition partners would be essential to maintaining political stability while advancing the country’s development agenda.
