(JollofNews) – Gambia’s president-elect, Adama Barrow is alive and kicking, JollofNews can confirmed.
Earlier this afternoon, a fake news website, Skytrendnews, reported that Mr Barrow 51, was killed by unknown assailants in the Gambian capital, Banjul.
According to the website, the assailant overpowered Mr Barrow’s private security guards, leaving two of the guards dead and other six injured from gunshots.
But this paper can confirmed that Mr Barrow, who will be will be sworn-in on January 19th as Gambia’s third president is not only alive, but living happily and healthily with his family and getting on with his plans to govern the small West African nation.
The former property developer, Wednesday held a series of engagements with coalition partners and other stakeholders at the luxurious Coco Ocean Hotel, where he is staying until he moves to the State House in Banjul.
“Mr Barrow and the entire members of the coalition are all here and going about their business,” a member of the opposition told JollofNews.
“This story is nonsense. It is only aimed at one thing; cause confuse and anxiety. Gambians should ignore this rumours and continue with their preparations to inaugurate their president on January 13th.”
Also debunking rumours, Mai Ahmad Fatty, a senior partner in the opposition coalition posted a picture of him and Mr Barrow on Facebook, taken before the Maghrib prayers.
Mr Fatty called on Gambians not to dignity rumours of Barrow’s assassination.
” You now have leaders who are accessible and open to public inquiry, he said. “Kindly verify before going public with information or validating reported information out there.”
Tension is high in the Gambia and security officers are put on stand-by after President Jammeh unilaterally annulled the results of the December 1st election which was won by Mr Barrow and called for fresh elections.
Mr Jammeh, 51, who has ruled the Gambia since July 1994 had initially conceded defeat and praised the country’s electoral system as “the most transparent election in the whole world,” adding that he would not contest the result.
He later changed his mind and filed a lawsuit at the supreme court asking it to declare him winner of the elections.
Mr Jammeh said he had pulled more votes in the election than his opposition rival and should therefore be declared the duly elected president of the Gambia instead of Adama Barrow.
Mr Barrow and the international community including the United Nations have rejected Mr Jammeh’s rejection of the election results and have urged him step down.
Leaders of the West African regional grouping have officially authorised a so-called Ecowas Standby Force (ESF) to intervene militarily if Mr Yahya Jammeh refuses to give up power when his mandate expires on January 18.
A December 17 resolution mandates the ESF to deploy a Senegal-led military force to oust Mr Jammeh who is challenging the election result after initially conceding defeat to Barrow and promising a smooth handover of power.
But as the deadline nears, Mr Jammeh is still standing his ground and has vowed to fight off any foreign invasion.
In a televised addressed on Saturday he said: “We have been principled, vehemently condemned violence but we shall never condone injustice and we will also not be threatened. Our sovereignty will not be compromised. Let me make very clear, we are ready to defend this country against any aggression and there will be no compromise for that. My government will Inshallah [Allah willing] never opt for such confrontation unless when we are compelled to defend our sovereignty, independence and dignity.
“Defending our independence and sovereignty is a sacred duty for all patriotic Gambians more so the Gambia Armed Forces. On the basis of liberate policy, my government developed an atmosphere of peace and stability in our country and we remain strongly committed to guard the sustenance of this culture of peace that is the envy of my nation and we will defend it to the last person.”

All I pray is peacefully transition of power in the land of Gambia, cuz no ambition worth the blood of single person in Gambia,West Africa, Africa and the world at large.so the president elect and the sitting president should compromise for the sake of human life
Glory be to God,for His Life Safety.
I am proud to be an African, I love and support the motion to forcefully kick Jammeh out of office by 18th January if he refuses to be gentle man. He should take a cue from President John Mahama of Ghana.
I think this romour is to scare the people that have plan for such devilish plan to desist from it. Jammeh should go since he has tested power for 22yrs and what else does he want. He overthrow the government when he was 29 yrs old.
I blv it is a higher time the African president should stop ashaming us. if defeated let jammeh concede defeat and leave to fyt for it next tym. No one was born to a die a president
if God is with you guys no one else can kill you
I Am Calling On Mr. Barrow To Be Very Careful With Mr. Jammeh.
Nobody will help you defend Gambia, you will defend it alone and possibly die alone. Like Gaddafi, soon you ll found hiding like a rat and the ordinary street kids will take their revenge on you.. Bow out now and enjoy your loot peacefully. 23 years rule is enough, try give peace a chance.
As a dignify Africain, i understand Jameh’s move. It is a shame that when Africans are becoming more and more of their situation and conscious about the fact they need to frère themseoves from néocolonialisme by brocking any bond that has been linking us with our oppressor, we still have africain leaders who still believe in our oppressors. I don’t understand why Jameh who has been courageous enough to say things at the mountain while other president say in their stomachs. I can’t believe we can have African présidents inbthe 21 century who still believe in the capacity of so call international organisations to help Africa and promots its development. I don’t have any problem with Gambian democracy or Barrow bring elected. All we want now in Africa as presiddnts are those that are capable and able to say NO TO COLONIALISME by removing this countries to neocolialism machines such as the ICC that judges only africain presidents and other international organisation that are ment to retard and Africain develpment.
To God be the glory for Adama’s safety. Dictator Jammeh should GO……….
AWOUDOU ISMAEL,
Thanks my PanAfricanist brother-in-arms. Imperialists and neocolonialists have far outweighed the intellect of our “knowledgeable” personalities solely on the vestiges of greed and lack of self esteem. That’s why our independence and sovereignty have always been NONSENSED by our former colonial torturers and subjugators.
Jammeh has exercised his constitutional rights by filing a petition at the Gambia Supreme court on the grounds of the Gambia’s Independence Electoral Commission’s revelations, three days after the results, affirming that the counting was fraudulent. That was the basis of President Jammeh’s argument which the detractors, opposition members and the international enemies never want to reiterate/echo.
But until the court’s verdicts are heard on January 10th, President Jammeh and his supporters will fight to defend the Gambia against any foreign invasion. Our court’s decision will prevail!
Awoudou and Babu, how can you defeat so call oppressors, neocolonist and imperialist by doing the same to your own people? Intimidating, oppressing, jailing and even killing your own people just because they expressed their voice and opposition legally.
Remember Kwame Nkrumah started great by being a central figure in the first African independent in Ghana. He also did great in extending a helping hand to other African countries both financially and politically to gain their independent. He was also great by calling for African unity- one African country instead of many weak ones. Nkrumah’s downfall began when he started oppressing and jailing his own people. He disrespected his Ghanian opponents by calling for a one party system. Nkrumah thought his party was the only political party in Ghana capable of ruling the country into development–what a selfish attitude.
My brothers, if we want to be truly free and respected by the so call oppressors and imperialist, we should respect ourselves first. How can the ICC respect us and our leaders if we cannot even respect our own court systems and regional organizations?
Africa is rich in natural resources, with smart and intelligent people, but because of absolute greed, selfishness and disregard for one another, we could not see a meaningful progress. Absolute corruption and large state funds are embezzled and safe to the banks of so call oppressors-how can they respect us?
A true African unity, pulled our resources together, with strong institutions and respect for the
rule of law are desperately needed.
Adamma Barrow, is agent of the west and the election was manipulated by them, executed by the commissioner..Am not saying that Jammeh, should continue, people has spoken and there is a need to leave the stage while spectators still cheering , if not he will hear the bad sound drum druming by Imperialist.
hello to all
Babili Mansa is the choice of the people not the fat belly and ugly wheelbarrow. if the diaspora gambians think they can manipulate the results by bribing the IEC Chief Robber by fixing results they are fools. we the people in The Gambia cannot be fooled by you. We know who is giving us progress and development. We will stand our hero Yahya Jammeh till the end. His love for Gambia cannot march you the hypocrits Diasporan Gambians who looted our monies and fled and now you want to come back by bribing the electoral chief robber to fix figures. Jammeh is not a fool neither a coward.
