(JollofNews) – Gambia’s President-elect Adama Barrow has temporarily moved to the Senegalese, capital Dakar, until his planned inauguration.
The decision was made for security reasons by West African leaders on Saturday in Bamako, Mali, after a meeting on the political situation in the Gambia with Mr Barrow.
Mr Barrow, 51, is due to be inaugurated on January 19th as Gambia’s third president after he was declared winner of last month’s presidential election by the country’s electoral commission.
But President Yahya Jammeh who has ruled the Gambia since 1994 is refusing to handover power at the end of his term on January 18th. His regime has deployed heavily armed soldiers at strategic locations across the country ahead of Mr Barrow’s planned inauguration.
Mr Jammeh had initially conceded defeat and praised the country’s electoral system as rigged proof but changed his mind a week later and filed a suit at the supreme court asking judges to determine that Mr Barrow was not duly elected or returned as president, and that the said election was void.
He must have consulted the veteran African dictators who also refused to accept the will of the people who heavily rejected their holding on to power. At least ECOWAS is a functional block which doesn’t tolerate nonsense, unlike SADC which is operates like a cult controlled by the Godfather from the dark world. viva Ecowas
Actually Gambians have decided to change Yaya Jammmeh since 1st December 2016.I therefore see no reason for him to insist in power.Power belongs to the people.I advised that him alone is not brave. He is a coward and him alone he cannot even beat a cock. People are brave than him.It is better he get out of that seat and go into exile. That is what he worked for since long. When he took over i was one of the best supporters, but after not listening to the Gambians,i never discuss about him. What is his intention.Tell Yaya he does not own that state house. It is for the tax payers. He cannot manage resources and this why the central bank does not have money.
He does not belief in Allah, but idol worshiping only otherwise he would have handed over to the peoples’choice.
If jammeh cause another life of gambian or a foreign national , he will face international travel ban with his enablers and face justice. He knows better not to commit any crime against humanity, all option is being used to defused this political crisis in a peaceful matters. If he choose crisis then lets see how he will handle it.
Ecowas is doing a fantastic job on Gambia. The decision by AU not to recognize Jammeh after his 5 year term expires on 19th January 2017 is complimentary to the Ecowas efforts. While AU and ECOWAS are busy solving the Election Dispute in Gambia they are being let down by SADC. In Zambia Elections were disputed and a Petetion was filed in Court by the Opposition 4 months ago and President Lungu is manipulating the Courts to make sure the Petition is not heard. Meantime Lungu has illegally sworn himself in power. Jammeh was advised by his officials that he can also use Lungu’s tactics thru the Courts to prolong his Rule. Lungu is a wrong Role Model in promoting Democracy in Africa. Both AU and SADC should cause Lungu to hear the Petition and dispose it off. What Lungu is doing with the Petition in Zambian is a bad example to Gambia’s Jammeh and Kabila in DRC. SADC should complement ECOWAS’s efforts in protecting and promoting Constitutional Democracy in Africa.
Whenever u have an Election Dispute in Africa it was an AU tradition to side with the Encumbent President and ignore the Opposition. Dictators were always protecting each other and the Will of the People was always ignored. Jammeh is trying tricks to remain in power. The decision by Ecowas and AU to side with the Will of People and the President Elect and Opposition Leader has out caught Jammeh and his supporters off guard. In Zambia Lungu rigged the Elections and proceeded to be sworn in without Hearing and determining the Petition. In the past it was just a matter of Rigging the Elections and the Encumbent President quickly swearing himself back to power. The Petition would take the full term of 5years to be heard or never heard at all. Lungu’s problem has been that it is now illegal to be sworn in without the Petition being heard, determined and the Court declaring a Winner. Lungu is now manipulating the Court Processes hoping the Petition will die a natural death. Unfortunately for Lungu the Petition is in Court and he is illegally in power. That is what Jammeh wants to do to prolong his stay in power. AU should make sure that both Jammeh and Lungu should fail and thus respect the Will of the People.
Ecowas is institution formed and funded by western powers to impose their will upon sovereign independent states like Gambia .Yahya Jammeh stands for the truth and this truth is a bitter pill to swallow for Ecowas mediators . No African leader can pinpoint at another over the conduct of elections because there is none these leaders who do have electoral sin . Nigeria which is ecowas powerhouse since independence has enjoyed any stability since independence until 1999 after miltary came to the end . Muhammad Buhari who is now current Nigerian president was part and parcel of this rotten kleptomaniac military regime of 1980’s.Today he is now a mediator to Gambia’s crisis and now together with his peers are giving Jammeh conditions on how he should step down or else face serious consequencies which include military action .Then big question comes Nigeria an economic and military powerhouse in ecowas together with other sister states like chad, cameroon have failed to tackle and eliminate Boko haram menace in their respective countries how will they be able to overthrow Yahya Jammeh and his regime. In conclusion Buharis’ Sirleafs’ Mahamas ‘ Macky Salls’ of this world are pursuing regime change agenda sponsored by the west to overthrow Jammeh and install puppet friendly to the west. THEY ARE TRAITORS?
Concerned African it’s time to take your meds and go to bed. Your psychiatrics should increase your dose.
Concerned african, what about jammehs human right abuses and tribal sentiment?
This stank of a Jammeh sycophant with all his railings about the west thus or that, yet what he accuses them of he does worst to his people, this is about no other than the voice of the Gambian people which must be respected, enough of this brainwashing
You’ve got jokes my brother.
Firstly, i want you to know that i’m a Nigerian and everything i’m going to tell you is based on true facts devoid of lazy bantering and emotions. I’m stating this caveat because i want to be blunt with you and i don’t want to come off as condescending to my fellow African brothers.
Secondly, your rants about Western powers and African leaders is baseless as you’re trying to appeal to the emotions of weak minded Gambians in order to foster your principal on them. Of course i know you’re being paid to propagate these sentiments. Gambians have spoken through the ballot and Jammeh MUST leave willingly or through military intervention of which he must face criminal justice if there is any loss of life.
Nigeria has been a stable country until 2010 when Boko Haram started as an Islamic group (Jama’atul Ahlus Sunna Lid Da’awatis Jihad) demanding for their right to practice sharia law in the far Northern region. The leader of this group Hammed Yusuf was subsequently arrested and killed by our overzealous police and in retaliation Boko Haram became radicalized as a violent group employing guerrilla warfare and hitting on civilian targets within the borders. Boko Haram has no political leaning so your comparison is very flawed.
Boko Haram flourished within the borders of 3 northern states out of the 36 states in Nigeria. The territory they held captive is the dreaded sambisa forest which has since been liberated by Nigerian special forces drawn from the 19th battalion “ECOMIG NIBATT 1”, the same forces that have been drafted to Gambia. Sambisa forest is no more under any terrorist control. The once occupied Sambisa forest is now fully under our military control so Boko Haram holds no territory in Nigeria. Never again!
You’ll recall that the instability in Libya, Central African Republic and some other African countries fueled the war on Terror in Nigeria. Weapons from these regions found their way into Nigeria and in the hands of boko haram. Nigeria will never sit back and allow any threat of instability in the region, we will not allow ourselves to be destabilized because of the political ambition of one man again. Never again!!
Our interest in Gambia is to secure the lives and properties of the Gambian people and to ensure that the region does not tip over into chaos, and thereby destabilizing the entire region. So if you ever think for a second that the Gambia would be a difficult to occupy militarily then you don’t understand the full capability of the Nigerian army. Gambia is a very small country with a population of less than 2 million people. If President Jammeh was a Nigerian leader in any Nigerian territory, he would be as powerful as a village chief. It is of President Jammeh’s interest to hand over power peacefully else there will be military and political consequences.
Note: I don’t like my President either because he’s a despotic tribalist and a part of the cabal that held Nigeria for ransom for ages but unfortunately, the majority of the people voted for him and the choice of the majority must be respected. Who am i to object? Welcome to Democracy.
Dear “Concerned African”,
you rant at the West (why not at the Far East as well?) and at the West African head of states
(a tactic that will easily swing readers to your side).
But what about the Gambian populace? Don’t you feel for
them, as Jammeh tries to shatter their hopes for a free Gambia and as thousands are so scared that they flee their home country?
Concerned African,
Jammeh conceded defeat stating “18978 more votes than I were cast for the opponent ,the opposition coalition leader”
What is your problem with that?
Puppet Barrow i know your foreign backers will used their Military Power to installed you but Gambia will also face a long-term instability.
There will be a long-term insurgency and a guerrila warfare that will bring a huge collateral damage to both lives and properties and make the country ungovernable.
Let every Gambian embrace the reality ahead of them. I agree that you will have your fraudulently elected president forcefully sworn in with the help of his foreign backers but but but Gambia will lost her status as a smiling coast forever. Mali is an example, Libya is another and Nigeria is another living example.
Gambians had long been listening to the horrors of other nations in Sarjo Barrow’s weekly news called Jamano, its the turn of those nations to listen to that of the Gambia. Because i know no good news is coming out of it only sad news.
Gambians be ready for the worst times if you think it is a one day operation and its over then you are wrong. This is going to be a bloodbath and it will shock all of you.
BE READY FOR THE WORST.
Concerned African…. You and Jammeh rant about the West. He Jammeh have bought a mansion in Maryland USA for $3.5 million. When his wife gets pregnant she goes to the west to deliver and not only her, other officials and ministers do it too. I’m a witness to one of the minister’s wife who came to deliver here in Raleigh N.C. not once but twice. Wanting their children to be US citizen, what a bunch of hypocrites. They talk so much against the West but invest all their money in the West and want their children to be western citizens. While abusing human rights, killing and threatening to kill their own citizens who speak against them.
When Jammeh was insulting and threatening to kill Mandinkas where were you? Are they not citizens of the land too, don’t they have the same rights Jammeh have to criticize him and oppose him? Don’t they have the rights to express their views and opinions?
Free Gambia:
I agree with you. They use their anti-Western rhetoric and hatred for Western values as an excuse to subjugate their brothers and sisters who disagree with their political views.
WHO IS ADAMA BARROW? WHAT DO WE REALLY KNOW ABOUT HIM?
BY SIDI N. BOJANG.
Dear Editor/Author of the above article or piece recently published by this Outlet and others, it is alleged and I quote,….”Gambia has been in a Political deadlock since “Barrow a “real estate mogul” who is little known before he announced his candidacy for president..”
There is no Evidence provided that Barrow is a “Real Estate Mogul” or even an independent agent or Businessman of any kind. No evidence have been provided by either Adama Barrow or the Coalition Alliance Party Leadership verifying that Barrow is a Real Estate Mongul, Property Developer or a Businessman. All of the alleged Credentials are being mouthed, written or associated with Adama Barrow by the Media through the UDP Party Leadership within the Coalition Alliance Party Leadership of 7 different parties, who have not in anyway, Substantiated the False Statements and the Insidious and Manipulative attempts by some would make an “Eagle out of a Vulture” in terms of a Career, Credentials and Professional Accomplishment of an individual who seems to be lacking in this department. Local search and attempts to verify and confirm the alleged credentials and busibess experience of President Elect Adama Barrow being peddled by a minority within the Gambian Coalition Alliance Party Leadership, namely some of the UDP Party members revealed the following.
That Barrow is the least known and most politically weak, unqualified and inexperienced and therefore, acceptable as a “Compromise” and Transition Figure head of the Gambia Coalition Alliance Party Standard Bearer. That word in the Streets is that, Adama Barrow was a “Rent Collector” for a Serahule Syndicate or Cartel known for their Holdings and Investments in Real Estate and Property Development. Requests for Evidence and Verification of Adama Barrow’s Credentials verifying his enrollment and attendance at a Real Estate School, College, or Institution, and whether or not he graduated from any such Institution, and is the Institution Accredited or not and by whom, have not been responded to by the Gambian Coalition Alliance Party Leadership and President Elect Adama Barrow. However, to the credit of the Gambia Coalition Alliance Party Spokesman, Mr. Sallah, at no time did he repeat or make any comments or statements about Adama Barrow’s Credentials either as an alleged Real Estate or Property Developer, nor refer to Adama Barrow as a Real “Estate Mongul”.
With the focus on getting President Yaya Jammeh to relinquish power, the Coalition Alliance Party Leadership and especially the UDP Party Leadership, have by Commission or Ommission contributed to the “False Positive Narrative of an Unknown Political Candidate who is a “Compromise Candidate” that they hope to use as a “Stepping Stone” in the age long quest to topple Jammeh government in the Gambia. Some of the The Gambia Coalition Alliance Party Leadership and the Gambian people are being Hoodwinked and bamboozled by a group of people in within the Coalition Alliance are hell bent on getting a President of their choosing no matter how unqualified, unprepared and dangerously an Unknown or “Compromise” candidate/President he is. In an election that witnessed Seven Parties Coalesce into One Party to contest against a formidable Opponent and Party, it is not paranoia, nor conspiratorial to ask yourself, who are the “Dark forces” behind the scenes selling the Presidency of Adama Barrow to the Gambian people?
Adama Barrow is the least known and arguably the least Politically experienced among arguably some of the most experienced and capable Politicians in the Gambia. Yet he is the one choosen to lead the Gambia Coalition Alliance Party. The logical responsible question is, Why? The answer may be in the Gambian Political and Business Class not Learning from their Pass Mistakes. President Yaya Jammeh and his Colleagues overthrew President Jawara’s regime in 1994 and Yaya Jammeh, then a 29 year old guard at the State House was like Adama Barrow, Choosen to lead the Gambia through the Gambia Armed Forces Provisional Revolutionary Council following the bloodless coup of 1994. The plan that was put in place by the Co-conspirators of the 1994 Coup was for Yaya Jammeh and his Colleagues to make a “Show” of “running the Affairs of State” of the Gambia for a period not to exceed Six Months to a Year, then Hand it over to the Civilian Co-conspirators. Alas, needless to restate, it didn’t turned out as planned or agreed on. The young military “boys” decided they want to be in charge of the Gambian State and as such, Systematically set out to Eliminate their Civilian Allies. Some were fired after being accused of Malfeasance and others were arrested and put in prison.
I see a parallel or similar unfortunate Development in the Gambia with the Gambia Coalition Alliance Party Government and Adama Barrow, the President Elect tasked to attempt to forge a True Coalition Alliance Government, only to fail due to his weakness, lack of experience useful for Political and Business Negotiations that would be required to maintain a Government of Coalition Alliance Parties with Strong Personalities and Divergent Agendas on Practically every issue, except the need to remove President Yaya Jammeh from office by any means and methods available. Would this Ad Hoc Committee that Metamorphed into Coalition Alliance Party, come to hunt the Gambia Coalition Alliance Government and especially the Gambian people? If history is anything to go by, you can be assured that, Post President Yaya Jammeh, the Real battle for the Gambian people and the Gambia Starts. Hope and pray, it ends well. For the mean time however, let’s not over looked the Insidious Manipulators at work within the Gambia Coalition Alliance Party Leadership especially, a Faction of the UDP. Gambia is more than the Sum Total of One individual, Party, Tribe or Region.
The Coalition Alliance Party Leadership and President Elect Adama Barrow as well as the Gambian people and Media can do better and must do better this time by engaging their Political, Civic and Business Community to Push for Due Diligence and Transparency in all Matters Concerning the Credibility, Credentials, Experience and Qualifications of all Local and especially National Office Candidates of which the Presidency is the ultimate Power Position. Gambians must get it Right this time. The Stakes are too high and Failure is not an Option Gambians can afford to Contemplate.
So what qualification did Yahya Jammeh got to rule for 22years and even dream of being a king one day?
Your lecture is long and very boring, please next time summarize it,thank you.
Such a coward this adama is. Sitting in senegal and wanting to be the president? He should be here in gambia if he call us his people.
AU and the whore ECOWAS must show and act against Boko haram first. They won’t as the west will not feed their mouth and pockets. Boko haram is supported by the west.
The west wants to use gambia as their platform to base their army so they have access to more looting. Jammeh being god fearing is not bending to their demands.
So they want him out.
Our president is and will be for ever YAYA JAMMEH
The west together with their cahoots in ECOWAS and AU are working in connivance with their masters to instigate regime change in Gambia just like they did to liberia , libya, ivory coast,.Adama Barrow should learn from history that a whiteman is no friend to africans when he goes to Malian capital Bamako to seek advice from french president Francois Hollande on how to topple Jammeh from power,he should bear in mind that tommorrow he will be the next victim of this sponsored regime change. One problem facing africans is that we are so gullible we appear not to learn from history even if he is being installed by the west into power he will not remain forever,if he fails to agree with these western imperialists they will look excuses for him to go. Adama Barrow should learn from leaders who were installed into power and dumped by the west such like Saddam Hussein;Mobutu seseseko e.t.c.
Concerned african, what about a dictator who dont care about human right and insulting other tribes and saying i will rule for billion years, do you think that remarks are good sign of leadership ? Is the only man to be perfect to rule gambia like said billion years. By the way term limit for presidency should be the best way to avoid situation like this, government comes and go people will decide, if they feel that change must happen then they will vote for change thats how democracy is. You cannot say i will rule how ever i like it against people wills. Your ruler doesnt make any consultation when making major changes instead he will go ahead and impost the change e.g Islamic state of gambia, did he make any referedum for it ? you knows the fact. What about if a christian president sitting in state house and impost gambia as a christian nation and will be rule by bible, just think about this, if you are a clever man .
I cover the situation in my country, the Gambia, with the Blood of Jesus. Nothing bad will happen in Jesus name, Amen
