Furious Gambia Lashes Out At AU’s Peace And Security Council

President Jammeh is facing pressure to step down

(JollofNews) – The Government of the Gambia has angrily reacted to a resolution issued by African Union’s Peace and Security Council, which warned President Yahya Jammeh of serious consequences if he refuses to handover power at the end of his term.

The Jammeh regime said the resolution is irresponsible, malicious and only intended to annoy and aggravate the political situation in the Gambia.

The African Union’s Peace and Security Council  last Friday warned Mr Jammeh that he will not be recognised  as president of the Gambia after January 18th. It urged him and his government to refrain from any action that could undermine the process leading up to the swearing-in of the President-elect Adama Barrow on 19th January 2017.

The council also reiterated its call to the Gambian stakeholders, including the defense and security forces, to exercise utmost restraint and to strictly abide by the constitution and uphold the rule of law, including the respect for the freedom of speech.

It said it will follow with keen interest the outcome of the visit to the Gambia by the Ecowas mediation, with the participation of the AU and the UN, and has agreed to meet as soon as possible, to assess the post-electoral situation in the Gambia and take appropriate decisions as may be deemed necessary.

But the Gambia Government said the council does not have the mandate to bar member states and governments from the African Union.

Ut added: “Any such resolution has to be approved by the authority of the heads of State of the African Union. This resolution has not been approved and the resolution is therefore non-binding and of no effect.”

  1. Ignorance is no defence. The bottom line is that Gambia is a constitutional democracy where violation of the law cannot be tolerated. Jammeh should expect harsher tones by the day and even physical confrontation in the event that that he contravenes the constitution and subverts the will of the people.

  2. He will be Kill or Arrested with 48hrs, and Africa will be free from the biggest drug dealer, a ruthless tribalist, this human ass wipe country looting dictator, The rapist blood sucking dictator will meet justice that he has denied Gambian for the last 22 yrs…

God will side with the Truth !

  3. I think it would be a good idea for Jammeh’s MPs to volunteer to be human shields when ECOMOG comes for Jammeh. Two birds with one stone.

  4. I would like to assure to Gambia securities who are behind Yahya Jammeh and full supporting him come on the 19th. They will see a different. Am a security personal. We are watching

  5. Adama Barrow says, he will reverse every thing jammeh had implemented, he says he will readmit back Gambia into commowealth of nations and the Icc . One of his officials has stated once Barrow is sworn and inaugurated Jammeh risks facing prosecution. Surely’ such kind of reckless statements can cause instability and fear among citizens not knowing what will happen in future .It’s now official beyond reasonable doubt that Barrow is astooge and agent of the west.

    • Why are you so afraid of the ICC? Are you hiding something?

    • In reality, Gambia have had no future the pst two decades plus other tan what is prevailing now. The status quo of state atrocities with impunity should have been halted since. Later it got the worst.
A reckless statement by the coalition or whatsoever like cannot be blamed for Jammeh’s insophisticated behaviour toward Gambians and the regional body. Jammeh knows what he wants to arrive at though he might not know what he should want to arrive at. He premedidates all his deeds, this, not meaning he calculates them with a good sense of reasoning. Unfortunately for Gambians Jammeh is broken-hearted by a money making illiterate of a woman who is indeed capable of staking the lifes of all of Gambia to buy herself the upmarket lifestyles. I bet she would cares for her goats life in Morocco than the human lives of Gambians.

  6. Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name Thy Kingdom come.
Father have mercy upon us, Your children here in our beloved country, The Gambia.
We have decided, irrespective of our religious background, to stand together as One Gambia, One People, One Power, under the leadership of our choice President, Mr. Adama Barrow. You stood for us and gave us the courage to make the decision. The result turned out successfully in our favour. We thank You for answering our prayers. Father, we pray for a peaceful transition of power. Bless both Yaya Jammeh and Adama Barrow according to your will. Let there be peace in our land. Oh God, save us in Jesus Name, Ameen.
