Gambia: Approve Service Partners With NAWEC To Ease Electric Top-ups

(JollofNews) – The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) and Approve Service Money Transfer Ltd (APS) have launched a new service which will make it easy for Gambians in the Diaspora to top-up their CASH Power Meters with the click of a button.

Under the scheme, the first of its kind, users will only need to register online once at www.approveservices.co.uk and start using the service on any meter in the Gambia at any time.

According Lamin Sanneh, Chief Executive Office of Approve Services Money Transfer Ltd, the scheme will ease the cash power burden not only on families and loved ones but also on many mosques and other faith centres, schools, and other community centers in the Gambia who may find cash power top-up credit a challenge.

“Another benefit is that this top-up service gives assurance to senders that the money sent for top-up is going to be used 100 per cent for the purpose it is intended for, with no worries of potential diversion of funds for other use,” he said.

“Gambians in the Diaspora and friends of the Gambia should take advantage of this innovative scheme. It takes little effort to sign up and you save your families a lot of hassle, worry and time.

“Approve Services top-up is available online 24/7 and in as little as 60 seconds, you can keep lights on in a home, mosque/other religious centers, schools and/or community centers, from far.”

Mr Sanneh added that the launch of the scheme is timely as Muslims prepare for Ramadan and give out zakat by topping-up cash power in Gambian mosques.

He added: “At Approve Services Money Transfer, we always put our customers first by constantly making it easy for them use services that makes huge differences. This has followed on the introduction of our mobile top-up services which enables Gambians abroad to top up the mobile phones of their family and loved ones in the Gambia. All our services can be done online, or download the APSMONEY app on Apple and Android.”

For his part, Mr Baba Fatajo, the Managing Director of NAWEC said the partnership is in line with NAWEC effort to increase access to electricity.

  1. Innovative scheme; Gambia is more and more reliant on the international employment of citizens in the diaspora. The last known figure of Gambians abroad contributing to Gambia’s GDP was 15%.Clearly families and loved ones are relying heavily on international breadwinners/

  2. Good plugging (advertising) for the company but this is nothing new. They have been offering this service for years. I have been using their services for years and never had any issues so well done to the team.

  3. Naaaaaa !!!!

  5. Bunkums. This is a scam. A means to rip the populace of the benefits that will be accrued from the diasporan subscription to this fake scheme.
When the international telephone calls are still the highest in the whole of Africa because the immense profits are still lucrative to the Barrow administration’s pockets, why won’t they cajole diasporans again into another scam scheme to re-fill their pockets?
All money coming from the diaspora that contribute to this administration’s fake schemes will only enrich their pockets.
There is no need to go to the faculty of psychology, the face appearance of this Lamin Sanneh, rightly depicts, HE IS A CORRUPT PERSON.

  6. Babu Soli
you are a nasty vicious little old man who is/was blind to all the atrocities, corruptions, nepotism, tribalism during the despotic rule of Jammeh, but unashamedly labelled everyone corrupt, incompetent and inept in this administration without a shred of evidence. Your last sentence in your piece is libel and scandalous and work of a coward you are. This international telephone gate way you are farting about had been going on for countless number of years under Jammeh, but like other things, Babu Soli had no qualms about it. The international telephone calls to and from Gambia being the highest didn’t start over night, but Babu soli had no qualms. What a damn hypocrite you are. Yahya Jammeh, his family and cronies enriched themselves illegally at the expense of our nation but Babu Soli had no qualms. Yahya and his henchmen killed, raped, robed, tortured, forced disappeared our people and Babu soli had no qualms. You filthy primitive Manswanko beast should go back to your dark hole and hibernate and allow we true Gambians to build our nation. You have no moral authority to label anybody as corrupt as the man whose praise you sing daily is the most corrupt human being in the history of our nation. May Almighty Allah save our people from the evil of men like you and Jammeh.

  7. Babu; Sometimes you go far too far with people’s reputations;

    • Agreed. No need for Babu to get that personal. Everybody, including the country’s fans and devotees are all trying hard, very hard in deed, to make their little, individual contributions towards peace, progress and prosperity in the Gambia. So lets tone it down a little, I would say.

  8. Nasty Dreadful Natty Dread,
Look at this ugly, villanous and stupid IMP condonig something he perceives wrong. So are you stupidly saying that Jammeh did it so your incompetent administration should continue the practice? Is that what you are affirming here? You neocolonialist reactionary with such a farfetched assertion.
That’s the nasty Gambia, as nasty as you asshole, that you are asking this bunch of inefficient people to govern. That’s why they will continue all malpractices, because they have idiots like you who tap them on the back for the evil they have been doing since January.
Do you think sane patriotic Gambians are accepting those cheap and idiotic and senseless arguments that Jammeh did it so if this inefficient administration does, it’s NO wrongdoing?
Gambians want to see tangible, viable and progressive projects, NOT the stupid Jammeh analogues coming from filthy IDIOTS like Nasty Dreadful Natty Dread.
Maybe you don’t know Lamin Sanneh. I’m not getting deep into that, but I know he’s CORRUPT!
I may reveal more about this chap, than you might not imagine. Let’s just stop at that.
I’m more concerned about your semi-schooled British Argos watchman in presidential clothing. A man who cannot decide nor deliver. The lamentable side of our political evolution. That’s my concern, not those corrupt government functionaries.
I’ll not going into tribal insults. I’m a bonafide Gambian Manswanko, a loyal, hardworking and incorruptible tribe that has NEVER stolen from the coffers of our people. Your tribe Nasty dreadful Natty Dread might have………………………….I STOP AT THAT.

    • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzh! Babu Soli.. your mouth in real life is a toilet. During which period did calls from abroad skyrocketed 120%? Calls from abroad during Bakary Njie’s time at Gamtel were cheaper and getting cheaper until the arrival of the hungry and poor money junky, Yayah Jammeh.
Do you think you are any impressive here with your negativity and insolence. Your sum-up is a silly little jackanapes.

  9. Mike,
When their reputations are clean, I’ll equally go far. I’m there on holidays every July/August and it’s really annoying to see how some of these unscrupulous public functionaries behave.

  10. Babu Soli
Why not refer yourself to your various nasty incomprehensible, twisted and idiotic pieces confirming what a nasty, petty, primitive, jealous tired ass you are. Tell me where i condone wrong doing? you senseless nincompoop. If to acknowledged Jammeh’s various crimes against our people is an affirmation of my condoning of perceived wrongs, so be it, but i know of a beast who was blinded and still can’t acknowledged those irrefutable facts, and that primitive beast is none other than Babu Soli. In your small twisted world of denials and intrigue, everybody else is corrupt bar Babu Soli,Yahya and the Manswanko tribesmen. What a filthy nob jockey you are. Calling yourself a sane patriotic Gambian is a lump of bull crap. You are just a suppressed washed out neocolonialist dictatorial enabler condemned to served the interest of those whose aim is to make us vassals to their needs. You are just a washed out journeyman who should be enjoying the fruit of his labour in retirement but instead is being ripped apart by the ever demanding chores of the imperialist masters. Your filthy rabies savaged old dog who will sell his old testicles to see our country in flames, to see our country again becoming a land stained with the blood of its innocent citizens, to see our country rule by a despot. But let me tell you Babu, those days will never materialize even if you sell your old shaggy ass hole to the devil.
May the lord protect our nation and people from the hatred and evil of men like you and Jammeh. AMEN!!!!!!

  11. Babu>.. You are with no doubt a very intelligent man/ You need to have a think about how you couch your points. Fact is your backing a loser with your former President. Please have some consideration for those departed and their families. Otherwise fire away. Stay on the right side of clever. God Bless.

  12. Nasty Dreadful Natty Dread
I ATTACH THIS BIT FROM ONE OF YOUR ON-LINE COMRADE, BAX.
CONCERNED PATRIOTIC CITIZENS HAVE BEGUN QUESTIONING THE VERACITY OF YOUR INEFFICIENT BARROW ADMINISTRATION.

Quote: “As for Gambia/ 52 years of feeding the rich and starving the poor is becoming a bit of a perennial philosophy that the bankers chase after with glee.”
Observation: I don’t know if it’s “fake news” or not, but I heard a very agitated Pa Nderry Mbai accusing ministers in the Barrow Administration of being allocated with 3 vehicles for their use:
One as official; one for school runs; one for the missus.
That’s what both Jawara & Jammeh ministers enjoyed.

    • Babu Soli, the problem you have is your support and praise for the criminal cabal regime of Yaya Jammeh. You have no legs to stand on to criticise President Barrow and his style of leadership, when you praise Yaya Jammeh’s mercurial, unpredictable and dangerous style of leadership.
Indeed, not everything is right with the Barrow Administration, but Gambians will take this administration than Jammeh’s evil and lawless style.
Unfortunately, you keep referring to President Barrow as an Argos watchman, but you probably know that many students in the UK do part time jobs to support themselves, and working to earn a living, is a very honourable thing.
      We can criticise the new administration for all the “old” things they want to keep or enjoy, but there is no comparison between it and the APRC regime;
Nor too, is there any comparison between the personalities of Mr Barrow and Mr Jammeh.
Barrow is a civilized, well mannered, better educated than Jammeh and highly accomplished businessman before he assumed office. We all know about Jammeh and his ways.

  13. Nasty Dreadful Natty Dread,
Those who have sold their nasty assholes and/or pussies were and still are those, like the uncouthed Nasty Natty Dread, who condoned the atrocities of the defunct Jawara regime and now accept the filthy mannerisms of this undemocratic and incompetent government.
I know you get very annoyed to your asshole when I relate the facts to you but I will never be swayed by your unschooled and irresponsible rantings.
People like you, cannot see further than the lengths of their shadows. You are just uncultured. With your reactionary behaviour and others in your fold, the Gambia would never move ahead to achieve sustainable development. Because your anachronic brain still believes on depending from elsewhere. No doubt you are living a beggar life.
We have seen the differences between the Jawara/Jammeh administrations and we’ll continue to support in situ what President Jammeh did. If you rant about the “human rights’ abuses”, don’t you stupid ass know where to lay your complaints? Inspite of all your hopeless rantings, you ride your asshole on the excellent infrastructure and social amenities President left behind. What can your incompetent Barrow administration do beyond what has already been achieved when we have a bunch of tribalist block heads fanfared by IDIOTS, IMPS, IGNORAMOUSES and TRIBALISTS like Nasty Dreadful Natty Dread?
We will vigorously keep our responsible style of opposition, inspite of coming heavy-handedly on STUPID IDIOTS like you, until we flush this inept government out with a British Argos watchman at the head. What a political humility for our nation! And a shame on you who nominated him for this august position.

    • Babu Soli
A filthy washed out tired old brain with shaggy hairy ass hole will never keep us on our toes. We will continue to root out the evil left behind by Jammeh and stupid ignorant tribalist apologist like you with your rants, puffing from your dirty ass hole your twisted tired old ideas can go to hell. For the first time in my life that i tell a 60 year old fool to go fuck himself. Go fuck yourself Babu Soli. You primitive ignorant sell out wanker. Go to hell.

      • Just follow the news on Solo Sandeng murder trial and listen to confessions made by suspects. You’ll understand why people like Babu Soli talk they way they talk. I’ll bet there were blood-ooze rituals used to be going on during that terror regime. Just look at the way Yayah Jammeh fumes and sweats like a swine in his hate speeches. Killers become psychopaths in time and Babu is showing the symptoms. But then, what can I think of dangerous mudslinger like him. Did the killers of Solo Sandeng call him in the Netherlands and said, ‘yeah, we did it’s?

    • Babu Soli, I honestly think you have completely lost the plot, and I don’t even know what your motivation is for criticising the Barrow Administration.
You have happily disregarded all the good achievements of the Jawara administration, but want supporters of the Barrow Administration to recognise the good achievements of the Jammeh administration.
Of course, both Jawara and Jammeh left something that their successors can build upon, but those who refuse to acknowledge Jawara’s achievements should not expect others to acknowledge Jammeh’s achievements.

    • If I could appeal to both of you to keep to the issues and leave the personal attacks. It serves no purpose whatsoever.

    • Dormu Rewwum Gambia (aka Luntango Suun Gann Gi)

This is the talk of an ELDERLY Gambian who CLAIMS to have attended St Augustine’s with Lawyer Darboe and Chief Justice Hassan Jallow???!!!
      Utterly Shameless – and Shameful.
Please JollofNews, call this shameless Grandpa to Order!

  14. Babu Soli
I know what sensationalism in journalism means, and there is a thin line sometimes between facts and fiction and that thin line is crossed constantly in some online newspapers to cause maximum impact. I heard too many lies from online papers over the years and Pa Nderry accusing somebody of something doesn’t means the accusation is 100% truthful. I don’t understand what you are trying to proof here, tired old ass? There is nothing to this baseless allegation but a figment of Pa Nderry’s imagination as a ploy to get him and his paper exposure.

  15. I am sure Mr Demba Jawo is keeping a close eye on what Pa Nderry and others are saying/ It is a very serious accusation which we all will pick at if allowed to festor.

We look forward to Mr Jawo confirming or denying any such potentially damaging information. After all Mr Jawo welcomed online critic and also confirmed he is always approachable. We need this government to practice what it preaches. Sooner than later.

  16. Babu; Please say something nice about Gambia and Gambians/

Such terrible language is unnecessary. Speak to us like you speak to your granny.

  17. WOW,Them gambia pop-corns a delicious. Cant get enough.

  18. We provide a pay as you go electricity service by installing a pay as you go electricity meter in your home. Excellent post I want to thank you for this informative read. Keep up your work.

  19. Bax/Mike Scales,
I’m taking you all seriously and hence promise to diffuse the tone of language and write constructively on issues.
You have made humane statemnets which went deep into my heart. I strongly promise you inspite of ALL that comes from detractors not to respond to provocations.
    My best regards.

  20. Babu/ Glad to hear you have taken to the call for civility. Hope your detractors respond in Kind. All are entitled to search for the new reality in their own style. This much needed forum is an open invitation to all.

  21. Babu Soli
I welcome your new undertakings of diffusing the tone of your language and stay constructively on issues. I am though little confused as to why a sudden change of course. From your reasoning, humane statements from Bax and Mike scales went deep into your heart. I wondered if it is the same heart that can’t be moved by the massacre of 14 protesting innocent school children in our homeland? Is it the same heart that can’t be moved by the horror endured by Solo Sandeng before he took his last breath? Is it the same heart unmoved by the gunning down of Deyda Hydara and the Mandinka military officials in Yundum barracks in cold blood? Is it the same heart unmoved when President Barrow’s 8 year old son was bitten to death by a dog, hence you lamented that it was a human sacrifice by President Barrow? Is it the same heart that rejoice in praising the lofty achievements of Jammeh but would not acknowledge the various crimes committed against our people in the hands of Jammeh and his henchmen? Is it the same heart that can’t see the good in men, especially those that happen to be in this administration? Is it the same heart that quote from the Holy Quran on issues that are blatantly false.
I hope and pray that you will shed light on these unanswered questions and those responsible for those crimes, may they pay the ultimate price for their crimes against our people. Amen.

  22. Natty Dread,
I wouldn’t have answered but I will when I can. I have just seen your posting as I am closing from work and going back home. I have the weekend ahead which I normally dedicate to my family. Nonetheless, I’ll try to find time to respond, not a firm promise anyway. If not over the weekend, hopefully on Monday. Just stay put.
I can give a vivid personal account of some of the events and my personal views.

  23. Natty Dread
Never get stupefied/stunned at my reactions and conduct. I always work according to my conscience and belief.
My reaction was not a sudden U-turn on course but an indepth reasoning based on the compatriot words from Sidi Bojang, Bax and Mike Scales Scales whom I consider a well wisher. He’s always welcome! (Not from Natty Dread, anyway)

I believe one’s reactions/actions should at times tally in consonance with the humane suggestions of others. Hence, my reaction in lowering the tone in language.
Now to your archive of questions:
    1) The massacre of 14 protesting school childern as you ironically stated, or the killing of 14 people as I may put it, was never condoned and applauded by me. I have always given the versions on reliable accounts of the incident. I always stopped at those accounts without making any pre-judgements/judgements or taking sides. Unless a more congenital account is given, based on free and fair probes and investigations into that gruesome incident, I remain neutral on indicting any side. Perhaps, it’s a lesson I have learnt from my host country where the course of law has never been tampered with by any force.
However, I can categorically affirm that the April 14th Student protest wouldn’t have reached that mob clímax hadn’t the evil UDP intruders and perpetrators not infiltrated the student gathering. The UDP saw it as the most momental occasion to tarnish the image of the government of the day, Thus, the Student protest was a shining occasion for them to achieve their evil covert intentions.
Government authorities led by the then Chief of Defence Staff(CDS) Baboucarr Jatte came to plea to and warn the students to disperse and carry their case before the authorities in a more democratic manner. He told them that the gathering was unauthorized and illegal. But it was the President Jammeh era in which some evil citizens believed anything done outside the peripheries of the law was LAWFUL. That’s why you hailed the December 30th 2014 invaders/criminals/terrorists who tried to usurp power by force, didn’t you? You all saw that evil and barbarous action as lawful and legal, didn’t you?
CDS Baboucarr Jatta wasn’t listened to, but was eventually chased by the mob into the Kanifing Police Intervention Unit headquarters where he escaped and sought refuge. The mob didn’t relent but tried to force through to the PIU armoury for weapons.
In the pandemonium that ensued, shooting broke out. Where did the first shots come from? There were different versions. That could only be cleared by an exhaustive investigation into the whole episode. 14 lives were lost, not only STUDENT lives! Everybody regretted the incident but we still do not have to make any mountain out of it until the truth comes to light. I don’t accept the loss of lives, but I equally believe in hearing from contending sides on issues that concern an individual much more a nation. That’s where we differ, Natty. While you accept, pre-judge, judge and make conclusions from all forms and sources of information, I strictly adhere to bonafide information, proofs and authoritative conclusions. YOU DON’T.
Why were the people of Kanfenda arrested at the instructions of Mai Fatty at the aftermath of the parliamentary elections? Wasn’t your on-line ranting Nyamakalo Jaalo Mad(i) Jobarteh calling on the inept Barrow government to exert more authoritative power by ALL MEANS to curb the protests in the Fonis? Which authority will allow illegal and unauthorised gatherings that might flare turmoil and civil unrest? I think your mad Mad(i) was saying exactly the same; that no illegal gathering should be permitted.
Sorry to write, but the late Solo Sandeng outstreched his rights at the detriment of our collective rights by single-handedly going to the Westfield confluence to illegally protest against a sitting power. His intention would have flared a national protest/civil unrest when the December 1st 2016 were already scheduled and officially announced. Why was Solo Sandeng in dire hurry to behave so irresponsibly away from the mainstream UDP executive authorization?
I can’t still believe that the UDP executive body could have allowed a single member to carry out such an irresponsible/illegal action, single-handedly with a learned lawyer as party leader. It was arrogant and misconstrued. Nonetheless, we all lamented his death and ask for facts leading to his demise. Not you and I can do that work, Natty. We can ask for judicious investigations but not to put the cart before the horse, that’s to take the laws into our hands and erroneously accuse, arrest and remand “would-be” culprits. That’s what you learned Mai Fatty was bent on exercising.
Let me ask you , Natty. Did Barrow visit his dead son’s tomb? Did he give out the traditional Muslim 3-7-40-day charity in memory of his son? I look forward to receiving your answers on these two contending questions. I’m still at pains with the untimely death of that very young chap but remain unforgiving with his cruel father who knows the crude, gruesome and covert circumstances/reasons leading to his son’s death. I stand to affirm that he sought his mundane desire with the loss of his son. If you deny my allegations simply answer my questions with facts, figures and dates. I know you will refute them, but I am unrelenting!
Natty, how many Mandink-official coups were perpetrated during the President Jammeh administration? Except for the Ndure Cham(whom I believe is a FanaFana Wollof) intended coup, the Mandinka military officials took upon themselves the onerous responsibility of overthrowing the President Jammeh government. Many of them lost their lives in the dangerous venture. Who assigned them the task of overthrowing the Jammeh government?
When you refer to President Jammeh’s “atrocities”, can you equally reminisce the unwanton killing of over 800 innocent Gambians in the 1981 Kukoi Samba Sanyang revolt by the Senegalese invading forces invited and led by Jawara-Abdou Diouf-BB Darbo? Should we probe into that cruel act of genocide on our people and investigate the motives behind sending foreign forces to massacre our people?
Unless we see our country as a unified nation devoid of tribal, regional, religious inclinations and bias, we are yet to prepare for a more accomodating nation. How long will it take us?

  24. Babu Soli
I will get back to you time permitting, insa Allah. After a long days meeting i just want to relax now.
