Gambia: Foni Is Not The Problem!

SA Jarjou

(JollofNews)- The people who prevailed on Former President to subvert the will of the Gambian people are the problem. And these people should be never allowed at any cost to come near to the corridor of authority again in our new Gambia.

But sometimes I feel irritated, annoyed, and disturbed beyond all human race when folk’s point fingers to the Fonika’s and look straight in to their eyes and say to them that they don’t accept the will of God.

This aforesaid, immorality statement is mathematically calculated wrongly with the intention and purpose of placing Foni at a bad viewpoint of light. Some do go extra miles using their position and ignorance to get the wrong impression about Foni at a bad light in order for the region to attract the attention of the media both national and international.

When Sir. Dawda Jawara was in power he never lost to Foni in any of the election being parliamentary and presidential. If we are to go by the statement that all Gambian’s have to support the Barrow lead administration, then it means we are trying to inculcate dictatorship in to the mind of the unborn generation of the new Gambia. The days of dictatorship are gone let’s embrace our newly born democracy.

If all had supported Yahya Jammeh then he will have still being in power. But we said no enough is enough we need to taste a different flavor which lead to his parking to Equatorial Guinea. It is not a crime neither unconstitutional to support a particular official registered political party under the laws of our dear mother land.

It is practically impossible for all Gambian’s to accept Barrow now, despite emerging the winner and being the president too. This will take time; it will be a gradually process with time things shall work well.

Barrow is the president which none of the Fonika’s denied therefore he have to engage Fonika’s for them to fell that yes we are recognized by the barrow lead administration. But if they are marginalized they will fell that they are not part and parcel of the new Gambia.

The Gambia belongs to Gambian’s both those home and abroad. In rebuilding a new Gambia we dream all regions need to be represented well and treated equally despite of our political ideology. In a place where trust does not exist, love, respect and solidarity are also absent.

The lack of trust destroys family, country, as well as social, cultural, and economic life.
One cannot use Foni to prevail the hearts of the new leadership with the excuse of cajoling for peace. We the sons and daughters of Foni can sort out any issue amongst ourselves in the spirits of one Gambia and One Family and One People.

In fact, there is no problem in Foni as most narrow minded think and want it to look like. Foni should not and cannot be a prolific ground for anyone to rejuvenate his or her political ambitions. We the Fonika’s are not sleeping and shall continue to rebrand the name of Foni in a white light as far beyond mountain Kilimanjaro.

We the Fonika’s will take the lead and government must recognize that. Strangers cannot be talking to our people as if we the Foninka’s do not have what it takes to resolve whatever misconceptions or perceptions that exist.

Peace is very important that need to be embraced by all and sundry without peace we cannot achieve our desire aims and objective. In the Qur’an, it is recommended to cease disagreements by peace and not to commence further disputes, fights, confusion, and discord; in addition, people are asked to take a balanced approach and seek justice (Qur’an, 8:1; 49:9–10). It is forbidden to spoil peace and tranquility by corruption; there are penalties for those who do.

It is possible to apply the verse; Peace is better (Qur’an, 4:128) which was specifically revealed to eradicate disagreements between couples, to all kinds of human relations.

Islam recommends a united and mutually helpful society, and this vision does not only refer to the level of nation, but includes international relations, too. In this sense, from an Islamic perspective, international law should take the establishment of peace as a foundation.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:14-15 14).

I can’t comprehend, understand, have a handle on why Folks are trying to make name about the issue. We the sons of Foni will solve our own problems if need be since we are people of one voice!!

I am a proud Fonika a big one for that matter and shall continue to fight and wipe out any injustice that can hinder the attainment of peace in the smiling coast of Africa.

  1. A very commendable assessment again from this considerate young gentleman;
equality and fraternity, within the true spirit of the guiding democratic principles.

Thanks you senior man. In speaking we can make The Gambia the last place of hope on earth!!

  3. Never be deflected by the ignorance of others; When we speak with the heart we raise the hopes of the many and deflect the fears of the few. No more tears for fears. The devil has departed.

    • Mike Scales, Simply, well stated. “Stiff Naked Fools” are a Dime a Dozen. The only thing they will Manage to accomplish, is demonstrate their lack of Credible “Democratic Credentials”. “Majoritism” is the First Step To Despotism and Hegemony of “Numerics”. Democracies are Not Democracies because the Majority “feels entitled to “Lord” Over or Rule Over the Rest. If that is not Hegemony of the “Numerical Majority”, I don’t know what is. By definition however, such regimes only democratic in Name and Appearance. It is Democracy by FORCE of Numerical numbers. It is this Insidious and Self-perpetuation Politics that has bedeviled the Gambia’s First, Second and Raising it’s Familiar Ugly Head in the Current Gambian Regime. Where Numerical Majoritism Exist, they are for the most part Repressive, Draconian and Lawless in Governance. Hope, this would not be Entrenched in the Current Gambian Regime of Ousainou Darbo, Mai Fatty and Adama Barrow. Gambia is More than the Sum Total of One Ethnic Group or Region. One People, One Destiny.

  4. I have been following your articles online especially on Facebook. it seems you are continually being disturbed to the bone of the new change. you spewed unnecessarily on the recent change of governance and status-quo and receiving compliments from the same people over and over without you learning from the greater society of the impact of your articles.

As you rightly said we are in the era of democracy, no one is denied supporting any party you want to. Denying that there is problem in Foni is not true…there is that political and social problem in Foni and is a concern to all. Stop downplaying that threat, the problem is a national issue and should addressed nationally. Foninkas alone cannot solve their problem it needs concerted efforts…this article is the most absurd and illogical, you are totally condemning the creation of regional, continental and global bodies like Ecowas, AU, EU, UN. there is no nation who can single handedly solve her own problem that is why we have bilateral and multilateral agreements and countries belonging to different international organisation for globalization to take its full course. this article has clearly shown your pride and reluctance to accept change and adapt. How can Foni solve its own problem??? people were there to restore that national pride in Foni amongst all tribe! Niani and Barajally were never a dissent after the coup in 1994 because they know that no one president can rule forever.
Young man go over your articles since the impasse, you will realize that the more you write the greater exposure of your naivety, ungratefulness, intolerance and your inability to accept… limiting your conscience to tribe, tribe, tribe. Your posts on Cassamance should be checked….the untold story about Cassamance goes beyond Kolda and Seidjo and not the border villages closer to the Gambia….remember that Cassamance is not part of the Gambia so leave it to the Senegalese who will do justice to the region. Tell your brethren in Foni That people have to come there to preach peace and the need for reconciliation, this is what Gambia needs and Foni alone cannot do it.

  5. Gambians alway argue passionately. But any attempt to silence opinion is totally undemocratic. The standard of debate on Jollof News is remarkable and mostly respectful. Perhaps that is why they get up to 55,000 reads a day.

  6. The gentleman needs to do more research before using public space to argue about some illogical and unsubstantial points. Foni is part of Gambia, I could not comprehend how he would come up with some phantom ideas about Foni solving Foni’s problems. He has a tendency to write just for the sake of writing.

  7. The mear fact that this gentleman has expressed an opinion and been prepared to disclose his identity, and stand by his words, qualifies him to enter this public space.
I see no evidence that he has chosen to react other than with decorum and respect to those who have expressed their view that his thoughts are substandard.
If as you claim Foni is part of Gambia, I see the importance of reading his opinions. For some would say Foni being the APRC stronghold, would require such voices should be welcomed to the Gambian debate. To marginalise any ethnic group in Gambia is sheer folly. One Nation, One People does it for me>>how about you ?

  8. Mike, you sound a bit irrational. No one is arguing that Mr Jarjou doesn’t have a right to express his opinion in this space. So, take your time and stop erroneously making assumptions. I’ve read Mr. Jarjou’s piece and pretty much understood his points. And if you believe the Foni population is marginalized, then something is seriously wrong with you. Beside, when did this new Gov take reign of power to deserve the labeled of marginalizing some ethnic groups? Please, let’s use this forum to engage in constructive debates that would benefit readers.
