Bakary B. Darboe, who is widely referred to as BB Darboe, has once again found himself at the centre of corruption allegations.
Nearly 20 years ago, BB Darboe was dragged to the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing thousands of dalasi from his employer. At the time the theft by servant charge was pressed against him by state prosecutors, BB was working for a local hotel in Bakau and was also an area councillor of one of the wards of Bakau.
Court records indicated that Mr. Darboe spent the money on his girlfriend and other personal use.
He denied the allegations and was subsequently arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court chaired by former magistrate Moses Richards.

Fast forward to 2025, the former Bakau councillor and now an official of mayor Talib Bensouda’s UMC has once again found himself at the centre of another corruption allegation, but this time around by poor and struggling Gambians.
