Absence Of Gambia’s First Lady From High-Profile Ruling Party Events Raises Questions

The conspicuous absence of The Gambia’s First Lady from recent high-level ruling party events have raised more questions than it answers.

First Lady Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow did not show up at the recent NPP national fund-raising dinner attended by the President, dignitaries and NPP supporters from across The Gambia and the diaspora.

Madam Bah-Barrow was also conspicuously absent from the inaugural ceremony of the NPP HQ in Bundung on Saturday.

The Second Lady, Madam Sarjo Mballow-Barrow, who has been literally playing the second fiddle in terms of the appearance of president’s wives in many presidential events, made two noticeable public appearances with her husband.

She was seen at the NPP gala dinner last week and during the inauguration of the NPP HQ in Bundung on Saturday.

It has yet to be clear to JollofNews whether Madam Bah-Barrow’s absence from the limelight of late or Madam Mballow-Barrow’s high-profile public appearances have anything to do with shifting roles in the presidential household, what’s clear though is that the First Lady’s absence from the NPP gala dinner and the “landmark” inaugural ceremony of the NPP HQ has left some asking as to what might have changed in the presidential household.

The presidential spokesperson could not be reached for comment, despite several efforts.
