Lawyers representing Amie Bensouda have issued a cease and desist letter to Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, accusing him of making defamatory statements regarding Bensouda’s role in the management of assets seized from former President Yahya Jammeh.
The legal letter, sent by Antouman A.B. Gaye & Co., alleges that since around 2020, Mr. Kurang has repeatedly made public claims—including during media interviews and on social media—that Ms. Bensouda engaged in “shady dealings” and had a conflict of interest in her work with the Janneh Commission.
The letter specifically points to allegations that Bensouda sold or acquired seized assets for personal benefit, and acted with bias or impropriety during the Commission’s proceedings. According to the firm, these statements are not only false but amount to malicious falsehood and defamation.
The lawyers have demanded that Kurang immediately cease all such statements, remove any previous posts or interviews containing them, and issue a full retraction and public apology. The retraction must be approved by Bensouda’s legal team in advance.
Kurang has been given seven days to comply with these demands. Failure to do so, the letter warns, will result in legal action seeking injunctive relief as well as D144 million in general and aggravated damages.
