Amir Trawally Reminds Public Of Deeper Meaning Behind Eidul Adha

As Muslims in The Gambia and across the world prepare to celebrate Eidul Adha on Friday, 6th June, a day which itself holds significance as a blessed Friday, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in The Gambia, Baba F. Trawally, has reminded the public of the deeper meaning behind the celebration.

In his Eid message, Amir Trawally said the true spirit of Eidul Adha lies in obedience to God, submission to His will, and sincere acts of goodness. He encouraged all believers to look beyond the outward rituals and focus on the values exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), his son Ismail (AS), and Hajra (AS), “whose unwavering trust and obedience to God continue to inspire millions”.

“It is their submission to Allah’s command and their firm reliance on Him that earned them lasting honour,” stated the Amir. “Their story reminds us that the essence of our sacrifices should be righteousness and a willingness to submit ourselves to God’s will.”

He referenced verse 38 of Surah al-Hajj in the Holy Quran, which states: “Their flesh reaches not Allah, nor does their blood, but it is your righteousness that reaches Him…” This verse, he noted, emphasizes that the act of sacrifice is symbolic. “What truly matters is the intention, sincerity, and righteousness behind it,” he pointed out.

In that spirit, Amir Trawally called on all Muslims to carry out good deeds, not just during Eid, but throughout the year. He highlighted the importance of offering the five daily prayers, fasting not only in Ramadan but during other voluntary times, and building a personal relationship with the Holy Quran — whether in Arabic or in translation.

“Let’s also not forget our duties to those in need,” he said. “We must care for the poor, the orphans, the sick, and those who are suffering — not just during Eid, but all year round.”

He expressed concern for those around the world, particularly in the Muslim world, who are experiencing conflict, displacement, and persecution. He urged Gambians to pray for them, show compassion, and appreciate the peace and stability currently enjoyed in The Gambia.

“We should never take our peace for granted,” he said. “Let’s be grateful to Allah for the love, harmony, and unity we have. Let’s continue to respect and care for one another despite our differences.”

Concluding his message, Amir Trawally conveyed Eid greetings on behalf of Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at. He wished all Gambians a blessed Eid:

“Eid Mubarak. Happy Tobaski. May Allah accept our sacrifices, protect our nation, and grant peace and prosperity to The Gambia and all of humanity.”
