Several senior members of the APRC “No to Alliance” faction were called in for questioning by the Gambia Police Force on Sunday, only hours before they were expected to hold a town-hall meeting and major press conference in Marakissa.
Police did not give an official reason for the invitations, but sources say the event was meant to address rising political concerns within the party and clarify the faction’s position on former President Yahya Jammeh’s possible return.
The development has drawn strong reactions from supporters and political watchers, many of whom see the move as another sign of growing tension between the faction and state authorities.
With the leadership tied up in discussions with police, the planned press conference was cancelled. The group says it will instead release a statement to outline its views.
In a notice to media houses, Sadibou Badjie, Media Director of the APRC “No to Alliance,” said the leadership had agreed with police to suspend the briefing until further notice.
“The National Executive of APRC Babilimansa regrets to inform media houses that the planned press conference, initially scheduled for today, Sunday at 5 PM, is hereby postponed due to reasons beyond our discretion,” the statement reads.
“Following engagements with police chiefs, a consensus was reached to suspend today’s event until further notice. The media, our great partners, will be duly informed of any new date. We apologise for any inconvenience this change may cause.”

The “No to Alliance” camp broke away from the main APRC over disagreements tied to Jammeh’s influence in party affairs and shifting political alliances. The latest interruption to their activities adds another layer of uncertainty to an already unsettled political scene.
