Austrian couple Manuel Di Stofleth Mitterer and Angelika Mitterer are expected to appear before a high court in the Gambian capital, Banjul, on Tuesday, where their bail application became a subject of intense courtroom debate recently.
Credible sources informed JollofNews that hotelier Ebrima Solomon Tamba and his investment partner Marcel Lambertus Teunis van Andel sometime last month lodged a criminal complaint against Manuel for allegedly “defrauding or attempting to defraud them” of millions of dalasi worth of investment.
The cybercrimes unit of the Gambia’s police subsequently opened a criminal investigation against Manuel and his partner Angelika Mitterer.
However, the couple’s attorneys raced to the high court in Banjul on 28th July, where they launched a bail application.
Meanwhile, the partnership between Tamba, Andel and Mitterer reportedly involved selling of apartments.
Mitterer was quoted as saying that he invested some of the proceeds from their investments in bitcoins.
The case, which is arguably the country’s first court case involving cryptocurrency, is expected to be chaired by Y. H Roberts.
