The Banjul Magistrates’ Court is today scheduled to begin the trial of two Austrian nationals on a charge of disobedience to a lawful order.
Manuel Stofleth Mitterer and his partner Angelika Mitterer are expected to appear before the lower court in the Gambian capital barely a month after the court ruled that they must stand trial, despite a strong legal argument in opposition from their attorney senior counsel Ida Drammeh.
The office of the Gambia’s police chief has lined up a three-member prosecution team, comprising AIG Momodou Sanneh, Commissioner Malang Jarju and Superintendent Essa Sarr.
Investors Ebrima Solomon Tamba and Marcel Limbertus Van Andel sometime this year filed a complaint with the police against Manuel Stofleth Mitterer after they suspected that the Austrian had diverted millions of dalasi worth of their investment to his personal use. Mitterer reportedly told investigators that he invested the money in Bitcoins, but he refused them access to his computer for details.

The money was the proceeds of the sale of apartments that Tamba, Andel and Mitterer partnered to develop.
