Benefit Of GACH’s Mining Operations In Other Coastal Communities Ripples In Kartong

Like falling rows of dominos, the benefits of GACH’s mining operations in three coastal communities have been cascading on other coastal communities, where the company has no presence.

Since acquiring sand mining licenses some years ago, GACH has paid and continues to pay millions of dalasi in royalties to support community-driven projects and humanitarian causes.

The GACH has not only been playing its corporate, social role in only places where it operates, but neighbouring settlements have also been getting their share of GACH’s cake as well.

“We heard uproar in Gunjur and Kartong [about environmental damage against GACH]. GACH never mined [sand] in those places. GACH has no machine in Gunjur and Kartong and it’s in fact GACH that constructed the perimeter at the Kartong football field. The Kartong sports committee chairman can attest to that,” said Muhammed Sillah of the Association of the PROs of Kombo Coastal Communities VDCs in a recent interview in reaction to allegations of environmental destruction against GACH in Gunjur and Kartong.
