‘Cessation Of Multi-Million Dalasi Eco-Lodges Project Ordered By Tourism Ministry’

The cessation of the implementation of a multi-million dalasi eco-lodges and hotel project was ordered by the Ministry of Tourism to enable Gamworks to evaluate the project, sources informed JollofNews.

It would be recalled that the Gambia Tourism Board sometime in 2020 embarked upon a massive construction of a four-star hotel in Barra and eco-lodges in Sotuma Samba Hai, Kunkilling and Nyaga Bantang.

According to former tourism minister Hamat Bah, the thinking behind the construction of these facilities was to enhance the country’s tourism assets with a view to promoting domestic and regional tourism.

However, the project stalled sometime down the line after the tourism ministry decided to conduct an evaluation exercise around it.

Sources familiar with the matter hinted JollofNews that the tourism minister has already taken the Gamworks evaluation report to Cabinet, seeking for an approval for more funding to begin the construction afresh.

“After the evaluation, it has been established that more than D90M is needed to execute the project,” this medium was informed.
