The campaign manager of the governing National People’s Party (NPP) has said that legislator Amie Colley’s decision to align with President Adama Barrow’s agenda was a “good step”.
NPP’s chief strategist Lamin Cham indicated that NAM Colley’s decision to support the President’s agenda was conscious and a strategic one made in the best interest of her constituents.
Lawmaker Amie Colley was voted into the National Assembly on an independent ticket, but of course with a huge backing of the supporters of the party of former Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh.
She, however, gravitated towards the ruling party before finally declaring her decision to align herself with President Barrow’s vision and model of development.
Colley’s move to endorse the President did not apparently sit well with former president Jammeh, who released an audio recording in which he ominously indicated that Madam Colley needed to be seriously warned of her political choices.
But to the NPP’s chief strategist Lamin Cham, NAM Colley made a wise political decision to endorse the President’s agenda.
Addressing a political gathering in Somita recently, Mr Cham said: “The step that Hon. Amie Colley took was a good step because she had come to the realization that she was voted into the Parliament by the people of Foni Berefet, but she can’t do anything meaningful without working hand in hand with the government. And she wants to deliver something positive for Foni Berefet, hence her declaration that from today onwards, she is supporting President Barrow’s agenda. Therefore, the people of Foni Berefet, follow in Amie’s footsteps. She is your messenger today and whatever Foni Berefet wants, Amie Colley will only knock on the President’s door and relay your message if you send her.”
The NPP’s chief strategist highlighted that NAM Colley’s decision has now favourably and firmly situated her to serve as a conduit between the constituents of Foni Berefet and the President.
He advised the people of Foni to turn towards President Barrow for the fulfilment of their wishes and aspirations.
Earlier in his speech, Mr. Cham hinted that nothing lasts forever.
“Every messenger was time-bound, when your time ended, another’s time started. If Allah’s government works like that, why wouldn’t Gambia’s government? Therefore, the people of Foni, President Barrow is today the gift of God to the Gambian people,” he emphasized. He continued:” As a result, I want to advise the people of Foni to turn towards President Barrow and unite Foni. President Barrow is working across the country. Embrace President Barrow and take your needs to him for solutions.”
