Relief may soon be on the way for motorists and commuters who have long endured the battered stretch of the Tipper Garage-Sukuta road.
The National Road Authority (NRA) has confirmed plans to repair the road, which has become notorious for its deep potholes and dangerous driving conditions.
For years, commuters have navigated the crumbling roadway by swerving into oncoming lanes to dodge potholes, a risky maneuver that has almost become routine.
During the rainy season, the situation worsens as the potholes fill with water, making the road nearly impassable and forcing many drivers to avoid the route altogether.
Speaking to JollofNews, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, the acting managing director of the NRA, assured the public that the Sukuta road is high on the authority’s agenda.
“Repairing the Sukuta road is one of our plans, and work will start as soon as we finish repairing parts of the Churchills Town road,” Janneh said.
“We will start with the Westfield-Sukuta road. That’s a tough road to address considering the issue of congestion, but nonetheless, we are determined. If we are to work every single night, we will do it, but that’s the next target. Sukuta is coming next.”
The NRA’s announcement comes as a welcome development for thousands of road users who have long called for urgent action. The authority’s pledge to tackle both the extensive damage and the heavy traffic challenges underlines its commitment to improving one of the country’s busiest transport corridors.
For commuters and residents along the Tipper Garage-Sukuta stretch, the prospect of a smoother, safer journey offers hope that their daily nightmare may soon come to an end.
