Falang Sonko Says Sabally Should Be Thankful To UDP For Support Over The Years

Falang Sonko, the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) regional chairman for the Kanifing Municipality (KMC), has said Momodou Sabally should be grateful to the opposition party for the support it extended to him during his time as a member.

Sonko’s comments follow Sabally’s recent claim that the UDP misled him into criticising President Adama Barrow. Now serving as a presidential adviser and deputy campaign manager for the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Sabally has sought to distance himself from the party he once championed.

But Sonko said Sabally’s political turnaround is not only disappointing but ungrateful, considering the help the UDP offered him when he needed it most.

“I want to entreat my brother to appreciate the good things that the UDP did for him,” Sonko said. “We supported Sabally with his living expenses and even gave him D200,000 after he was released from police detention. What else can he say about the UDP other than thank the party?”

Sabally, a former secretary general under Yahya Jammeh’s regime, became one of the UDP’s most vocal defenders before crossing over to the NPP. His departure and subsequent criticism of the UDP have raised eyebrows within the party, with Sonko now challenging his narrative.

“Instead of attacking the very people who stood by him, he should be honest enough to acknowledge the help he received,” Sonko added.
