Foday Danjo Reacts To Reports D30M Was Squandered Under His Watch

The Chairman of Basse Area Council, Sunkary Danjo, has brushed aside reports D30m of tax and rate payers money has been squandered under his watch.

Mouths were left gaping almost a fortnight ago when it was reported that D30m was misappropriated under Mr. Danjo’s nose from January to October of this fiscal year.

However, Mr. Danjo in an apparent attempt to allay fears, released an audio, calling on the greater public to disregard the reports and look forward to the conclusion of the ongoing audit of the council’s finances.

“How can I sanction an audit when I know that my hands are not clean,” he asked rhetorically.

“I want to appeal to you all Chairman Danjo group that there’s no truth in the reports. Wait for the end of the audit, which is at its preliminary stage,” he stated.

According to Mr. Danjo, Basse’s financial performance has never exceeded D30, expressing fear the council may not perform to that level this fiscal year.

“Our annual turnover is D30m but this may not be attained this year,” he pointed out.

Chairman Danjo, therefore, called on Gambians not to entertain the reports and instead look forward to the final audit report.
