President Adama Barrow of the Gambia has reiterated his government’s commitment to promote democracy, stability and strong institutions for sustainable national development.
Addressing a team of representatives from the African Union led by Thomas Kwesi Quartey, deputy chairperson of the organisation, President Barrow said Africa has the capacity but added that it needs to organise its human resource to further develop the continent.
He said government is determined to give Gambians the change they have fought for. He added that the Gambia was disconnected for a long time and lost most of its intellectuals to the international community during the previous regime of Yahya Jammeh.
The president called on Gambian intellectuals to contribute to national development whether they are at home or in the diaspora.
He reiterated the country’s commitment to the protocols it has signed up to and said his administration is willing to open up to the world to end its isolation.
For his part, Thomas Kwesi Quartey, deputy chairperson of the African Union, described the Gambia as an important member of the African Union and said his organisation has followed developments in the small west African country since the transition.
He commended the Barrow administration for its efforts and pledged that AU would work with partners to support The Gambia’s civil service reform programme, education and food security.
Strong democratic institutions are cemented on fair and equitable distribution of the people’s common/collective resources. When that is absent, there is no democracy. Only when a people feel the full benefits of their resources could democracy strive.
The mere liberalization of speech, which administrators would not heed to, is NO DEMOCRACY. Covert/clandestine swindling of the people’s collective resources is NO democracy.
When Fatumatta Tambajang can travel with a large entourage to South America to receive huge per diem emoluments, when Hamat Bah could travel to Spain with a large entourage to receive huge per diem emoluments, democracy is not striving and the institutions to strengthen democracy are already CORRUPT. That’s the tendency in the Gambia today, with this INEFFICIENT, CORRUPT, CORRUPTIBLE and TRIBALIST administration.
Amnesia or damn right dishonesty is what i can describe some of the comments. Yahya Jammeh amassed for himself so much wealth at the expense of the Gambian people that only the sick can attest to the man’s democratic credentials, yet these same sick people are those coming out trying to talk about strong democratic institutions. Where were those fools when Jammeh was destroying all our democratic institutions, killing our people, violating the rights of our citizens, mismanaging our dwindling resources, robbing all state institutions? Where was these hypocrites? These damn sore losers whose only wish is to maintain the status quo of dictatorship had failed and will fail in all their insidious political insults of our people. They can hide in Equatorial Guinea, Holland or wherever but they should know that the long arm of the law will eventually get hold of them.
Down with the hypocritical and hateful bigotry of Yahya Jammeh and his evil die hard supporters.
While they are travelling abroad to receive per diem emoluments, our farmers 2017 groundnut produce are still lingering in the SECCOS without money. They have beeen bought on credit, meaning the farmers hold on to receipts until such time that they are called to receive their money. If the receipt is destroyed, deteriorated or lost, the poor farmer has a long huddle before receiving her/his money.
On the WRONG side of the coin they receive their per diem emoluments for doing NOTHING as soon as they resume at their various offices.
Our pensioners have been waiting for a month without their D100 or at most D700 pension emolument.
And what about the IOM disbursements to Gambian deportees from Europe? Some would toil for weeks if not months to get their allotments. Where they are given, they are drastically cut by the functionaries. That’s the manner they cheat their fellow countrywomen/men.
There is no doubt about the USELESSNESS and SELFISHNESS of this CORRUPT administration.
