Gambia OIC Secretariat Dissolved, Conference Centre Management Ceded

The Gambia government has dissolved The Gambia OIC Secretariat.

The government has now ceded the management of the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre to a private entity called the Banjul Convention.

The Minister of Information, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, on Tuesday told Coffee Time With Peter Gomez that the decision came into effect on 1 May 2025.

“The OIC Secretariat is no more,” Dr. Ceesay stated, hinting that the secretariat has outlived its usefulness since the guests of the Banjul OIC conference have come and gone.

The ceding of the management of the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre to a private entity adds to the list of strategic national assets that have been privatized in the past years.

The Senegambia Bridge, Megabank, part of ground handling operations at the Banjul International Airport(BIA) and airport security have all been ceded to private operators.
