The ambitious hotel and eco-lodges construction project that The Gambia government set out upon in 2020 risks suffering a disastrous failure, despite the injection of millions of taxpayer money into it.
Gambia’s Ministry of Tourism and Culture initiated the project for the construction of eco-lodges in Sotuma Samba, Kunkilling, Nyaga Bantang and a four-star hotel in Barra to be named Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Resort.
The thinking behind this project, according to former tourism minister Hamat Bah, is to promote domestic, regional tourism.
However, almost five years on, none of the facilities has yet to be inaugurated.

The matter became a subject of parliamentary scrutiny almost two years ago but since then, nothing spectacular has happened.
