Gambia’s Foreign Minister Calls For Immediate Action On Gaza, Reaffirms Support For Two-State Solution

Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie, has called for urgent international action to address the crisis in Gaza and the wider Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Minister Njie made the statement on Monday at an Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Speaking on behalf of President Adama Barrow and the Gambian people, he condemned the continuation of Israeli military operations and the forced displacement of Palestinians, warning that such actions will not lead to peace.

He described the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, noting that more than 300,000 children are at risk of famine and death due to the ongoing blockade. He also expressed regret and concern over reports of attacks on humanitarian convoys, aid workers and essential infrastructure, which he said were violations of international law, including the Geneva Convention and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

The minister outlined four areas where he urged the international community to act: unhindered humanitarian access, coordinated civilian protection, a lasting resolution to the conflict, and full recognition of Palestine.

Reaffirming The Gambia’s position, Njie said the country continues to support a Two-State Solution as the only viable path toward peace, stability and mutual respect in the region. He commended Saudi Arabia and France for co-chairing the recent UN High-Level Conference on Palestine, which he said demonstrated international commitment to this solution.

He called on OIC member states to strengthen their resolve to support the Palestinian people and back the resolution under consideration at the session. “The people of Palestine, particularly those in Gaza, have suffered enough,” he said.

The OIC session brought together member states to deliberate on a coordinated response to the crisis and to mobilise broader global support for Palestine.
