Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie, has dismissed recent claims by Abdoulie Sanyang questioning his qualifications to lead the ministry.
In a statement shared with JollofNews, Minister Njie described Sanyang’s remarks made during a West Coast Radio program as “baseless and fabricated lies” intended to mislead the public and undermine trust in state institutions.
“I do not waste my time responding to people like Abdoulie Sanyang who persist in spreading falsehoods,” he said. “The processes of governance and national security are far too important to be trivialised by reckless statements lacking any shred of evidence.”
The minister stressed the need for responsible leadership, adding that he prefers to remain focused on his duties rather than, in his words, “entertaining distractions from individuals whose only aim is to sow confusion.”
Njie, who previously served as Minister of Defence, played a key role in the restructuring and professionalisation of the Gambia Armed Forces before assuming his current portfolio at Foreign Affairs.
He reiterated his commitment to serving The Gambia with integrity, saying his priority remains strengthening the country’s institutions and safeguarding national interests.
