Soldiers from the Ghanaian Contingent serving under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (GHANCOY 9) have donated blood to support healthcare services at the Essau District Hospital.
The exercise was led by Captain Kwarteng Albert Adjei, the contingent’s medical officer, on behalf of Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle.
“On behalf of the office commanding Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, I thank the officials at the Essau District Hospital for their welcoming and support during the blood donation exercise,” Captain Adjei said. “Blood is something you cannot buy, and through voluntary donation, we can save lives. We are doing this as part of our civil-military cooperation and to strengthen the relationship between GHANCOY 9 and the people of The Gambia.”
Hospital administrator Lamin Fofana expressed appreciation for the soldiers’ contribution. “I thank the GHANCOY 9 members for coming to our aid,” he said. “Donating blood means saving lives. It is always difficult during emergencies when we don’t have enough supply at the blood bank. Having someone come voluntarily like GHANCOY 9 is commendable.”
The initiative reflects GHANCOY 9’s commitment to humanitarian service and community engagement. By donating blood, the soldiers are not only helping to save lives but also building stronger ties between the mission and Gambian communities.
