GRA Launches New Taxpayer Charter, Calls For Public Input

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) on Wednesday launched a revised Taxpayer Charter, urging the public and stakeholders to provide feedback before its adoption.

The ceremony was held at Bakadaji hotel in Kololi.

Deputy Commissioner General Essa Jallow said the charter sets out taxpayers’ rights and obligations while pledging quality service, transparency, certainty, and fairness from the authority.

Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe described the charter as a public commitment to taxpayers. He said the first edition was a milestone, but the new version reflects lessons learned, stakeholder feedback, and international best practices.

According to him, the GRA is moving from an enforcement-focused approach to one centered on service delivery, stressing that taxpayers who trust the system are more likely to comply. The charter, he added, promises professionalism, confidentiality, impartiality, and transparent service.

Darboe called for active participation in the validation process, saying the charter must be shaped by the people it serves.

Representing the Ministry of Finance, Alhagie Jallow welcomed the initiative, describing it as a “declaration of trust.” He said it will help formalize taxpayer rights, clarify obligations, and strengthen commitment to a fair and efficient tax system.

Officials said the goal is for the document to be embraced as The Gambia’s Taxpayer Charter, not just a GRA policy.
