GRA Sensitizes Builders On Integrated Tax System

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) is stepping up its awareness campaign for its new Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), recently hosting a day-long sensitisation workshop for construction companies.

The event, held at a local hotel in Bakau on Wednesday, brought together various firms to promote the effective use of the digital platform.

The workshop is part of the GRA’s intensified effort to engage stakeholders and ensure a smooth transition to the new system, which is a key component of the Authority’s reform initiative to enhance tax administration and efficiency.

Streamlining Tax Compliance

Speaking at the event, Project Manager Samba Sallah highlighted the GRA’s “firm commitment” to leveraging ITAS to significantly improve the tax administration process and simplify compliance for taxpayers.

He described the project as a “significant gesture” that will ease the current challenges in tax administration and “pave an easier way for taxpayers to comply.”

Reducing Time and Effort

The Deputy Commissioner General of the GRA, Mr. Essa Jallow, further underscored the importance of the project, anticipating a positive effect on operations and the achievement of robust tax compliance.

Deputy Commissioner Jallow noted that the initiative is specifically designed to “reduce time waste and superfluous efforts” by streamlining the process and “cutting almost all difficulties.” He added that this major reform will enlighten citizens on their tax obligations and ensure the “equitable aspect fairness of their duties.”

Ensuring a Peaceful and Progressive Country

Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe also recognized the initiative, calling it a “different initiative” that will make the work of both the GRA and their clients easier.

Crucially, Commissioner General Darboe stressed the critical importance of tax compliance for national development, noting how it “ensures a peaceful and progressive country.” He called on all taxpayers to “comply with tax payment in the best smoother way,” further emphasizing the necessity of a modern, digital tax collection system.

The sensitisation workshop for the construction sector marks a key milestone in the GRA’s rollout of ITAS as it works to modernize the tax administration landscape in The Gambia.
