Jammeh Made Attempts To Draw Me Into His Gov’t — Darboe

The UDP leader has said that former President Yahya Jammeh made a number of attempts to draw him into his government, but he refused based on his determination to end the sufferings of Gambians.

“They often accuse us of being driven by the desire for positions but I swear, we are not into this for positions,” the UDP leader disclosed in a recent meeting between him and UDP women, who visited him at his Pipeline office, to deliver their Eid gift to him.

According to the long-standing opposition leader, he would have been still occupying a political office if at all his struggle is motivated by the desire for a position.

“I had such opportunities even during Jammeh’s time,” Hon. Darboe revealed. He went on to state: “The former NIA director general Abdoulie Kujabi is still alive and he will hear on the radio what I am saying. Yahya Jammeh made a number of attempts to draw me into the government but I told him that I will never do it as I must end the sufferings of my people. So, I am not into politics for position or self-enrichment. I would not have otherwise quit lawyering. If I am delivered whilst my cousin is not salvaged, I am not yet delivered.”

Darboe highlighted the need for Gambians to be united by a shared goal and vision for a better Gambia by ushering in a people-centred government.

“And, it behoves us all to unite and install a government that would serve the interest of the people. This is not about tribe or religion. People of all faiths are experiencing this hardship. Every tribe you can think of in this country is experiencing this hardship. It’s like this is a national wound and UDP is the cure for this,” he stated.
