Former NPP official Kebba Madi Bojang has warned ruling party supporters to show restraint “in their attempt to soil his reputation” as, according to him, it shall not be well if they compel him to respond.
“Respect must be reciprocated. I have respect for them, let them reciprocate it. I have always been quiet and never attacked anyone. Let them calm down. And they should calm down. If they do not heed until we start responding, it shall not be well. Let them stop what they are doing. I, Kebba Madi, cannot be framed,” he stated in an interview with citizen journalist Lamin Touray.
Kebba Madi Bojang, who was expelled from the NPP sometime this month, made these utterances when he was asked by Touray to shed light on his alleged involvement in facilitating a “Back-way” journey that claimed young lives in his home village of Jambur.
“It’s very disheartening for me to sit down and discuss the Back-way issue because of my dear ones from my village and youths from other parts of the country. That makes me feel like not to talk about it,” said Mr. Bojang, adding, “Some people have started talking and I want to allow them freedom to make misleading utterances. But what I want to make clear to the people is that no one can tell you that Kebba Madi has bought a boat for smuggling people [to Europe], no one in this country can tell you I ever invested a dalasi in his/her child [to go the Back-way route]. I never spent a butut on any of the boats that set sail from The Gambia. I never spent a butut on anyone’s child either in Jambur or outside Jambur. Whoever’s child may be in that boat, let them ask them. I have no business in it.”
According to Mr. Bojang, the shipwreck that claimed lives in Jambur was an issue of communal mourning in Jambur.
“And a lot of things are being said and this is a tragic development for Jambur. If you always want to rekindle past sad events, Allah will be the judge between you and the people. Anyone saying anything against me, I summon you to Allah because my exit from a party, my unwillingness to remain with a party is my humble opinion. I did not criticise or insult anyone. I just decided to quit a party and if that matters to them to the extent of insulting and saying untruths about me, I summon all of them to Allah, the Lord and the Decider,” he stated.
Mr. Bojang explained that some individuals have been going around Jambur, saying they were investigating his alleged involvement in the boating tragedy.
“I will not name names because some of those talking about me are worthless,” stated Bojang. He continued: “If you allege that I smuggled a boat, then go to court because the talk is too much. Some are going around Jambur, saying they are investigating. What type of investigators are they? I think the laws of The Gambia should be respected because these people do not even know how to investigate because the one you claimed to be investigating has his eyes wide open upon you, seeing you and hearing all that you are saying about him. Let me make it clear that anyone can go to court to prove his/her allegation against me.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Bojang is reportedly preparing the ground to register with the IEC his own political party to be called the National Development Party (NDP).
