Barely a week after she was robbed at gunpoint by an unknown assailant, Awa Jallow has broken silence over the incident that has left residents of Manjai kunda still under shock.
The 23-year-old forex agent had a gun held to her and was told to hand over monies
kept in the safe, amounting to D7,000.
“The incident happened last Wednesday at about 11 am. That day I forgot to lock the front office door,” Awa Jallow told this reporter during an exclusive interview.
The armed robbery that took place in Manjai kunda is the latest of series of incidents that are in contrast with a recent police report,
indicating that “the crime rate in the country is not in the increase.”
Located a few blocks away from United Democratic Party (UDP) headquarters, the forex bureau is also adjacent to a restaurant, facing the road leading to Kotu Police station.
Ms Awa Jallow said when the guy stood in front of her, fear and anxiety touched every piece of her mind.
“When he pulled out his pistol, there was no other option than to comply,” she said.
She was not able to identify the culprit as he was wearing a mask, and parked his motobike in a way that the number plate cannot not be seen through from inside.
“He got away with my mobile, laptop and data card after asking me to go lie down in the second office,” she recalled.
Awa Jallow seized the opportunity to call on Gambian authorities to make sure that security prevail in the country.
“Without security there can be no développent, and vice versa.”
At Manjai Kunda Police station it was confirmed that the matter was reported there, and investigation is going on.

Somehow, some Gambians and their Non-Gambian Co-conspirators within and the neighboring Countries’ citizens have decided that “Gambia Has Decided” means “Lawlessness”, do as you wish, break any and all Laws with Impunity. The problem is compounded by what I would call the current Gambian Regime’s Four “I”. Indifference, Inadequate, Inappropriate and Incompetent response to “things falling apart” while the Adama Barrow, Ousainou Darbo and Mrs. Jallow Tambajang’s Regime “Chop” on and from the proverbial “elephant”. The use of Insecurity and Scape goats for Political reasons is a Diabolical and Insidious Act that the Peace loving Gambians of all Political Partys, Tribes, and Stakeholders in and outside of the Gambia should Cease and Desist from Perpetuating or Aiding and Abetting the State of Insecurity. The security situation is very concerning and I hope the authorities get on top of it soonest, but I do think your readiness to heap blame on the Barrow Administration for everything that’s going wrong in our country today, is unfair and in a sense, stems out of either ignorance or a deliberate attempt to misinform.
I think it is quite obvious that the security challenges we face today are best understood within the context of our past, particularly under Jammeh, when recruitment policy into the Armed Forces was disregarded to recruit individuals who did not meet entry requirements.
A good number of these have deserted after the fall of their patron, Yaya Jammeh, for fear of being exposed and may either be lying down low in border villages or crossed over the border to Cassamance.
Having lost the privileges and good life they enjoyed under Jammeh, and without the means to support themselves now, isn’t it possible that they could resort to these types of criminal activities, if they have access to guns?
These armed robberies, from the look of things, aren’t carried out by amateurs. These seem to be very well trained individuals who carry out these operations to military precision. Hence the past could very well be the culprit here. Who is to say that weapons were not siphoned off into secret locations during the impasse, to be used for exactly these types of operations or even much worse?

Why do I have to categorise you? However, I think you cannot preach me on the interwovenness of our diverse Gambian tribes.
We (my Manswanka tribe) have lived with the Mandinkos for centuries and it comes to moments when some people cannot identify us from them.
