Banjul mayor Rohey Malick Lowe has insisted that nobody can impose Talib Ahmed Bensouda on the United Democratic Party (UDP), hinting that the Gambia’s main opposition party was never embroiled in leadership squabbles throughout its long history.
Mayor Lowe underlined that even the party leader Lawyer Ousainou Darboe does not possess the powers to impose the KM mayor on the UDP.
She also called out those pontificating Talib’s purported suitability as the winning candidate, telling them to come to the realisation that there is nothing special about Talib.
“Musa Jeng, none is in any illusion that you are advocating for Talib, but do you actually know how many people are advocating for Yankuba Darboe? What you are doing is not helping Talib. Talib cannot impose himself on the UDP. What is so special about Talib? I’m the mayor of a whole capital city,” the first-ever female mayor of Banjul contended in an interview with For The People By The People Show.
According to the Banjul mayor, nobody in the UDP loathes Talib, emphasising that there is no hatred in the UDP.
“Desist from saying that there are people who loathe Talib. Nobody loathes Talib Bensouda today or tomorrow. There is no hatred in the UDP,” Lowe cautioned Bensouda advocates, whom she accused of using Musa Jeng’s media platform to spread untruths about the UDP.
Mayor Lowe asserted that she can give more than 100 reasons to show that Talib dislikes her.
“Can anyone of you stand up and give me one reason why Rohey Malick Lowe should hate Talib? If you tell me, then I will give you 100 reasons to show that Talib dislikes me,” she stated, adding: “I see no grudge in Yankuba Darboe against Talib, but every compound must have a head.
No matter how Ousainou Darboe maybe, he cannot be in the party since 1996 and all of a sudden, you tell him to vanish. This has never happened in the UDP since 1996. And why do you want it to be different this time around?”
