Minister Bah Urges Clerics To Champion Peace At Serekunda Mosque Inauguration

The Minister of Local Government, Lands, and Religious Affairs, Hamat NK Bah, has called on religious leaders to prioritize peace and uphold the core teachings of the Holy Prophet in their sermons.

Speaking Friday at the inauguration of the newly built Serekunda Central Mosque, Minister Bah cautioned against messages that could threaten national stability, stressing the critical role clerics play in safeguarding social harmony.

“Religious leaders must preach peace and strictly adhere to the teachings of the Holy Prophet, avoiding anything that will undermine the peace and stability of this nation,” Bah told worshippers and dignitaries gathered for the ceremony.

The Minister emphasized that the pulpit should remain a source of guidance and unity, urging leaders to ensure their teachings strengthen national cohesion.

He also used the occasion to commend President Adama Barrow, praising his “piousness and efforts in rebuilding the new Serekunda Mosque,” which he described as a milestone for the community.

The new mosque, now one of the largest and most modern houses of worship in the country, is expected to accommodate the growing congregation in Serekunda, Gambia’s busiest urban center.

Minister Bah’s message sets a clear expectation for religious leaders: that their influence must be used to foster peace, stability, and togetherness in The Gambia.
