NAWEC To Resume Installation Of Taps After 3-Year Hiatus

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) is reportedly set to begin water tap installation on Wednesday after a three-year break.

A NAWEC insider, who spoke to JollofNews on condition of anonymity, said tap installation is scheduled to resume on October 15, 2025. The staff member confirmed that NAWEC officials would start installing taps in various communities and homes across the country.

“There is no doubt that we [NAWEC officials] would start rolling out taps to Gambians tomorrow, the 15th of October, 2025,” said the insider. “I will encourage Gambians who are eager to install taps in their communities, homes, etc. to start applying.”

The insider also provided details on the payment process, stating, “Payments can be made to our Bloomberg and Eco Bank accounts to avoid delay.”

This move is expected to ease the process for residents and businesses looking to access NAWEC’s water services.

A concerned citizen, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed scepticism about NAWEC’s recent announcement to roll out water taps after a three-year standoff.

He said: “This information brings no relief to Gambians, particularly people like us who have applied for water for over 8 years now, but to no avail,” the citizen said.

The individual alleged widespread corruption within NAWEC, claiming that some people are connected illegally without applying.

“There are people I know of who have never applied for water and they are connected illegally,” the concerned citizen stated.
