The Niamina Sotokoi UDP 100% Mbenoto has extended warm congratulations to Lawyer Ousainou Darboe following his election as flagbearer of the United Democratic Party (UDP) for the 2026 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Monday, the group said Darboe’s election reflects the deep trust and confidence that party members and supporters continue to place in his leadership and vision for The Gambia.
“Your election is a clear indication of the confidence and trust that we supporters and membership of the mighty UDP continue to place in your leadership and your long-standing commitment to salvage our dear country, The Gambia, to the promised land,” the statement read.
The congratulatory message was delivered on behalf of the executive of Niamina Sotokoi UDP 100% Mbenoto, with Chairman Momodou Keita, Vice Chairman Sulayman Cham, Second Vice Chairman Mamadi Fadi Cham and Secretary General Bakary Baturu Danso signing off on the statement.
Darboe, a veteran politician and founding leader of the UDP, was re-elected as the party’s standard-bearer during the recent congress. His candidacy will once again put him at the center of the country’s political contest as he seeks to lead the opposition’s push in the 2026 polls.
The endorsement from the Niamina Sotokoi group adds to a wave of support from UDP chapters across the country, signalling a strong backing for Darboe as the party prepares for another high-stakes presidential race.
