NPP Accuses Opposition Of Spreading False Claims Over Hakalang Road Inauguration

The National People’s Party (NPP) has accused members of the opposition of spreading misinformation about the inauguration of the Hakalang road in the North Bank Region.

During a live radio discussion on Niumi FM, NPP Media and Communication Assistant, Modou Saho, and National Executive member, Saikou Barrow, alleged that some opposition figures have been circulating false claims in several villages across Upper Niumi, suggesting that the road inauguration would not take place as planned.

“The opposition’s claims are completely baseless,” said Barrow during the program. “We want to assure our supporters and the people of Upper Niumi that the road inauguration is going ahead as scheduled. No amount of misinformation will derail our commitment to development.”

The Niumi Hakalang road stretches 84.5 kilometres, linking Niumi and Jokadou districts in The Gambia’s North Bank Region. The project, which faced delays due to challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, is now complete and divided into three main sections: Buniadu to Kuntaya (55.7 km), Albreda to Fass Omar Saho (15.14 km, 76.22% complete), and Bangally to Bafuloto (13.71 km).

Saho, speaking on behalf of the party’s media wing, commended Niumi FM for providing a platform to clarify the situation and keep the public informed. “We’re grateful to Niumi FM for helping us reach out to our people. Accurate information is key to ensuring communities stay updated on national development efforts,” he said.

The completion and planned inauguration of the Hakalang road represent a major milestone for the North Bank Region, improving transportation, trade, and connectivity for residents. The NPP maintains that it remains focused on delivering infrastructure projects that contribute to national progress despite political distractions.
