NPP Youth Leader Vows To Defend Barrow Amid Protest Threats

The National People’s Party (NPP) Youth President, Momodou Sabally, has vowed that the ruling party will defend President Adama Barrow and his government against any protest threats, warning that lawbreakers will face consequences.

Speaking during a Wednesday meeting in Gunjur, Kombo South, Sabally said while Gambians have the right to demonstrate, those who break the law will not be spared. He stressed that protests should not disrupt the daily lives of women and children.

“We will not tolerate anyone who incites violence. If they pelt us with one stone, we will respond with 100 stones,” Sabally declared, accusing opposition parties of using young people to stir unrest.

The former Secretary-General and Head of the Civil Service urged Gambians to respect the country’s laws, arguing that President Adama Barrow enjoys broad support. “Over 150,000 Gambians voted for President Barrow. It is not easy for a few people to topple him through protests,” he said.

Sabally added that many sought the presidency, but “the Almighty decided to give it to Adama Barrow who was not known in the country’s political landscape.”

While pledging that the NPP is committed to “decent politics,” Sabally warned the party would not sit idle if attacked. “We will not insult or harm anyone, but we will deal with anyone who causes us,” he said.

Sabally also highlighted the equality of all Gambians, saying, “Everyone has one vote regardless of their origin.”

In a bid to woo residents of Kombo South, Sabally promised to lobby President Barrow to build a mini-stadium in Gunjur. The meeting reportedly saw several young people from the area defect to the NPP.
