Seedy S.K Njie, Deputy Spokesman of the National People’s Party (NPP), has praised President Adama Barrow’s decision to appoint Modou Ceesay, former Auditor General, as Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment.
In a statement issued Friday, Njie described the appointment as a demonstration of President Barrow’s commitment to entrusting “critical national leadership positions to Gambians of proven competence and integrity.”
According to Njie, the Trade Ministry plays a pivotal role in shaping The Gambia’s economic future.
“The Ministry of Trade sits at the very heart of our nation’s economic transformation and future prosperity. It demands visionary leadership leadership that can craft and enforce bold, forward-looking trade policies, accelerate industrial growth, deepen regional integration, and open up greater employment opportunities for Gambians,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Mr. Ceesay’s background in accountability, reforms and governance uniquely positions him to deliver on the Ministry’s mandate.
“With his proven record in accountability, reforms, and governance, Mr. Ceesay is exceptionally well-positioned to drive this agenda and steer the Ministry toward delivering lasting impact for our country,” Njie added.
The NPP deputy spokesman urged Mr. Ceesay to remain true to his pledge to both President Barrow and the Gambian people.
“I urge Mr. Ceesay to honour the commitment he made to H.E. the President when accepting the offer, and honour this noble trust placed in him by none other but the President of the Republic and, by extension, the Gambian people,” Njie said.
Njie also congratulated Mr. Cherno Amadou Sowe, who has been appointed as the new Auditor General.
“I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the new Auditor General, Mr. Cherno Amadou Sowe, and I wish him all the best in his new assignment,” he concluded.
