Pirang WDC Condemns Death Of Minor, Calls For Full Investigation

The Pirang Ward Development Committee has voiced strong outrage after the death of Isatou Gibba, a minor who died during childbirth in circumstances that have shaken the community.

According to accounts received by the Committee, Isatou’s pregnancy resulted from actions allegedly committed by Carlos Sonko, the husband of her aunt. Committee chairman and ward councillor Lamin Dibba said the allegation represents a deep breach of trust and a serious violation of the girl’s rights.

In a statement shared with JollofNews, Dibba said the community is grieving and demanding answers.

“I condemn all forms of exploitation, abuse, and violence against women and girls,” he said. “No individual should ever face harm, coercion, or violation. What happened to Isatou is unacceptable and must not be ignored.”

Dibba called on authorities to open a full and transparent investigation into the events that led to the pregnancy and the girl’s death. He stressed that anyone found responsible must face justice.

The Committee is urging government bodies, community leaders, civil society groups, and support services to improve protection systems for at-risk children. Dibba said the tragedy highlights a failure to safeguard a vulnerable minor who needed help.

“Isatou’s death is a painful reminder that we must do more to protect the most vulnerable among us,” he said. “We stand united in demanding justice and working to prevent anything like this from happening again.”
