Authorities in the Gambia have launched a formal investigation into an incident involving a private aircraft at the Banjul International Airport, following reports of possible unauthorised access and missing items from the plane.
The Gambia Police Force confirmed the aircraft, bearing Brazilian registration PR-OOF, was discovered on July 8, 2025, with signs that suggest it may have been tampered with. Items reportedly missing from the aircraft include flight tools, electronic equipment used during operations, and a quantity of beverages.
In a statement issued Monday, police said the Crime Scene Investigation Unit conducted a full forensic examination of the aircraft. Officers collected statements from the flight crew and relevant airport personnel, and reviewed CCTV footage from the area during the time the incident is believed to have occurred.
So far, preliminary findings show no signs of forced entry. However, investigators noted that the aircraft’s pilot door was found open. Police are continuing to review additional surveillance material and cross-reference it with witness accounts.
“The Gambia Police Force acknowledges the seriousness of this matter and assures the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine all relevant facts,” the statement said.
Officials have not disclosed the estimated value of the missing items, and no suspects have been named at this time.

Banjul International Airport is The Gambia’s primary aviation gateway and typically handles a mix of commercial, cargo, and private flights. Security around the airport has come under occasional scrutiny in the past, and this incident is likely to raise further questions about protocols surrounding access to private aircraft on the tarmac.
Authorities say more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
