Police Prosecute Yonna Forex Bureau Staff In Staged Robbery

Amadou Jawo and accomplice charged after false robbery report and financial fraud

The Gambia Police Force has filed formal charges against Amadou M. Jawo, a Yonna Forex Bureau operator and Alieu Sanyang his alleged accomplice in connection with a staged robbery incident at Yonna Forex Bureau in Kalagi Village.

The case stems from an incident reported on April 25, 2025, where Amadou Jawo was found lying inside his office with his mouth tied, claiming to have been robbed. Initial investigations led to his referral to Bwiam General Hospital, where medical personnel found no injuries.

Further investigations revealed that Jawo had orchestrated the scene to cover up the alleged theft of D140,000 from the office. He was assisted by Alieu Sanyang, who tied him up to make it look like a robbery had occurred.

On April 29, 2025, both accused persons were arraigned before Her Worship Anna O. Mendy, Principal Magistrate at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, and charged with the following offences:

1. Conspiracy to commit felony, contrary to Section 368 of the Criminal Code

2. Stealing by clerk or servant, contrary to Section 258 of the Criminal Code

3. Accessory after the fact, contrary to Section 26(1) of the Criminal Code

They pleaded not guilty to all charges and were granted bail in the sum of D200,000 each, with two sureties, one of whom must be a Principal Civil Servant.

The matter has been adjourned to May 9th , 2025 at 12:30 PM for the hearing of Prosecution Witness 1 (PW1).

The Gambia Police Force assures the public of its commitment to uphold the law and bring all offenders to justice.
