
President Adama Barrow of the Gambia Tuesday extended a state of emergency in the country for another week as part of measures to combat the spread of Covid-19.
This is the third third time the president has bypassed parliament to declare a state of emergency since the outbreak of the pandemic in March.
A statement from Office of the President said he was exercising his powers in accordance with theb1997 Constitution.
“The public is reminded that the COVID -19 Emergency Regulations issued under the Emergency Powers Act shall continue to apply during the period of the State of Public Emergency,” the statement said.
It added: “Furthermore, the public is advised to take all precautionary measures to protect themselves and curb the spread of COVID-19, while the experts continue to monitor and assess the situation.”
