The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has announced a series of new measures aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and service quality in the country’s telecommunications sector. The announcement was made during an official event at PURA’s headquarters in Kanifing.
The regulator introduced three major initiatives: a Spectrum Monitoring Van, a Telecom Information App, and a Quality of Experience (QoE) system. Together, these tools are expected to strengthen oversight, provide consumers with better access to information, and enhance service delivery across the nation.
According to PURA officials, the Spectrum Monitoring Van will allow the authority to track and manage frequency use more effectively, reducing interference and ensuring compliance among operators. The Telecom Information App will give consumers real-time access to important data on tariffs, service standards, and complaint mechanisms, while the QoE system will help monitor the actual performance of telecom services from the user’s perspective.
“These initiatives are designed to bring greater accountability to the industry and ensure that consumer rights are fully protected,” said Solo Sima, PURA’s Deputy Director, during the launch. He added that the new tools are part of a broader strategy to modernise regulations and create a more competitive and reliable telecom environment.
Telecommunications have become a critical part of everyday life in The Gambia, and PURA’s move comes amid growing demand for better connectivity and quality of service. The regulator says it will continue working closely with operators and stakeholders to align networks with both national standards and consumer expectations.
PURA has encouraged the public to download and use the new app, and to report any service issues through its official complaint channels.
