The act of the special presidential adviser Momodou Sabally, kneeling down for a Christian prayer was on Wednesday a subject of passionate online and offline debate, but Mr. Sabally said he did what he did out of courtesy.
“Well I was among a government delegation that attended a Christian feast-cum-fundraiser. The congregation led by priests decided to pray for the government and the delegation of ministers and advisers present. We were asked to step forward for that prayer. Among us was a Christian minister who knelt down for the prayer. Out of courtesy, we also knelt down,” Mr. Sabally, who is also the deputy campaign manager of the ruling NPP, explained to JollofNews on Thursday morning when contacted for his reaction to the heated debate around his action.
The NPP deputy chief strategist suggested to this medium that he just did as the Romans while in Rome, but re-emphasized that he had just been courteous.
“That was it, nothing more or less. We were among their congregation and thought if they knelt for that prayer, personally I did it out of courtesy and nothing more,” said Sabally.
“I am Muslim and solidly committed to that creed,” he concluded.
