Erstwhile United Democratic Party (UDP) campaign manager and current National People’s Party (NPP) deputy campaign manager Momodou Sabally has fired back at the UDP KM regional chairman Mr. Falang Sonko following Sonko’s assertion that Mr. Sabally owes the UDP a debt of gratitude “for the numerous welfare packages that the UDP extended to him” during his time in the party.
In his response shared with JollofNews, Sabally dismissed Falang’s claims of him “benefitting from UDP’s financial generosity” as fictitious. Sabally challenged the senior UDP official to seek clarification from the UDP leader Ousainou Darboe and the party’s treasurer about his [Sabally] financial contributions to the UDP ahead of the 2021 elections.
“Well, let Falang go and ask Lawyer Darboe how much money I brought into the treasury of the UDP in the run-up to the 2021 election,” Sabally said. “Falang surely would not know that because he is not among the trusted top guns of that party.”
Sabally accused Sonko of being part of a faction within the UDP that, according to him, is undermining the party from within.
“Falang Sonko and co are the leeches destroying the UDP, playing double standards with shifting loyalties between the ‘Teddybear’ and the Party Leader Darboe,” Sabally said, referencing what appears to be an internal power struggle involving KMC Mayor Talib Bensouda.
According to Sabally, Sonko is aligned with a Mayor Bensouda-led camp, attempting to wrest control of the party from Darboe.
“This man, who is among the many people bought by Talib Bensouda to support his misguided attempts to hijack the party from Darboe, is a dangerous cankerworm,” Sabally contended.
He described Sonko’s alleged betrayal as a long-running issue familiar to many within the party’s core.
“His betrayal of UDP and double standards is nothing new to those who know him. And this is why he would remain in the dark about what actually happens in that party behind the scenes.”
