Sabally Highlights NPP’s Development Agenda & Barrow’s Leadership At Spain Event

Gambia’s Minister of Agriculture, Demba Sabally, has reaffirmed the National People’s Party’s (NPP) commitment to good governance, equality, and national development, describing the ruling party as a driving force for progress and stability under President Adama Barrow’s leadership.

Speaking at an NPP fundraising event in Spain, Minister Sabally said the party’s core values are rooted in the principles of democracy, rule of law, and equal opportunity for all Gambians.

“NPP party is entirely made to enhance the lives and livelihoods of Gambians,” Sabally said. “The party has given hope to millions, and our leader, H.E. President Adama Barrow, has taken the country from the clutches of dictatorship and ushered in an era of democracy.”

According to Sabally, NPP currently enjoys “an absolute majority of 58% or more,” following what he described as the fair and internationally monitored 2021 presidential election. He confirmed that President Barrow, who also serves as the party’s Secretary-General and leader, will once again contest in the 2026 elections.

Highlighting the party’s achievements since coming to power, Sabally pointed to what he said were significant improvements in infrastructure, access to electricity, and food security.

“The NPP, through the leadership of President Barrow, has transformed the country beyond belief and recognition. Today, The Gambia is considered one of the highest in the sub-region, from the capital Banjul to the smallest village in rural Gambia,” he said.

On energy access, the minister claimed that over 200,000 households have been connected to electricity in the past two years, describing the country’s energy initiatives as a “model of cleanliness” in the region.

He also cited progress in agriculture and food production, noting that the government’s efforts toward national food security have drawn recognition from international partners.

“Our hope for national food security has not gone unfulfilled. Even our donors, especially the World Bank, have noticed this and have supported the government,” Sabally said.

The event in Spain forms part of NPP’s ongoing efforts to engage Gambians in the diaspora and rally support for the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.
